I've received a disc but keep getting error message loading onto Windows XP Is there are work around or have I got an old version that will not work with this operating system?

I don't know the ins and outs of this Reid, but you can get XP to pretend that it's running the disk on a different operating system (whatever that is in technical terms!!) Go to Help and Support Centre on the Start Menu and type in Program Compatibility Wizard and it should come up with the topic "Getting older programs to run on Windows XP"

It has worked for us on occasions!!!

Becky, thanks I did not know about this wizard. Unfortunately it does not load, although I can look at the files from the cd under explorer

The message is as follows

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NET . The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. Oprions Close or Ignore close the set-up down

Unfortunately no Even tried a fix on Microsoft site for 16 bit software, but no joy

Some software just refuses to work in Windows XP

Try this..

Find the icon for the "OT Disney Magic Studios" (the icon that loads the program up). Then right click on it. Select "Properties" and select the "Compatability" tab at the top of the dialogue box. Select the checkbox "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and select either Windows 95 or Windows 98/Me.

Also try checking the boxes for "Run in 256 colours", "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" and "Disable visual themes".

Reid,

I believe there's a piece of software called 'DOS Box' which is available for general download, which emulates DOS under XP and can get older software to work.

I've never used it myself but I've heard good things so it might do the trick.

Thanks for the suggestions. Even though the disc says Windows 95/98 neither compatibility option works. Think I'll look for other alternative software.
