I have a 5 yr old who is crazy about dinosaurs...where in the US can I take him to see some cool dino exhibits? We've been to museums in th NY Area --I'm looking maybe out West??

Thanks

ps- We've done Dinoland in AK numerous times!

The Field Museum, Chicago. Have you ever heard of "Sue," the T. rex skeleton? She's there.

Utah has a couple of good options:

The Dinosaur Museam at Thanksgiving Point about 30 miles south of the Salt Lake Airport is great.

Dinosaur Park in Ogden (about the same distance north) is also a fun place.

The Visitors Center at Dinosaur National Monument on the Utah/Colorado border.

We just went to Nature's Art in Oakdale, CT (same road as Waterford Mall) where they have dinosaur replicas - around 30 in total. There is also a craft place where kids can pan for gold, make sand designs and find crystals. The websites are www.enaturesart.com and
www.thedinosaurplace.com. We spent around 3 hours there, including about 45 mins on the awesome playground. They are also installing a spray park this summer.

Second, our very own Roger Williams Park Zoo has the dinosaur exhibit again until Sept. It is very well done, with about 15 dinosaurs (animatronic), including a spitting dilophosaurus (not sure about spelling, or correct name). The zoo is one of the best around - although probably not as big as Bronx - and could easily take most of a day.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA. Very nice exhibits.

I would second the Field in Chicago (which JUST reopened their Dinosaur Hall after a two year closure), and also the Carnegie in Pittsburgh, which was really the first museum in the US to get into dinos in a big way; their collection is HUGE.

Another good one that I've visited is the Denver Museum of Nature & Science near downtown Denver: http://www.dmns.org/main/en/General/Exhibitions/CurrentExhibitions/Prehistoric+Journey.htm

In Los Angeles, don't forget the La Brea Tar Pits (the Page Museum). These are not dinos, but animals from the ice age, like mammoths and saber-toothed cats. What makes this museum special is that the pits are still there and you can see and smell them. http://www.tarpits.org/
