Please remember that we are not Gods. Any childs first line of defense is always the parent or caregiver simply because you know your child best. Doctors work on information given at that time. Most professionals that I work with, care very much about our patients.
ABSOLUTELY! My pediatrician always says, "You're her mother/father - you tell me." Doctors are wonderful but they are not a replacement for parents. I am very blessed. My mother has been an RN for nearly 40 years and she is GOOD. She did 10 years of OB, about 10 ICU, about 15 trauma, and the rest hospice. She is always my first call when it comes to my kids. She knows my kids and she knows what is right and what isn't. I rely on my pediatrician as part of my *team*. My pediatrician relies on me to tell her when something is not right. From there, she takes the science into consideration to figure out what the problem might be. No parent should rely solely on a doctor who sees their child for 20 minutes or so. It's not fair to expect a doctor to know all of the answers.
