Do you remember how old your DC was when they started to wear size 4 diapers? I have a feeling DS will wear size 3's for a while and I like to buy a lot at sales. DS is 2 1/2 months, 15 lbs, and he has chunky thighs ;) Any ideas how long he'll wear the size 3's?

Mine started wearing size 4 just after turning one. He has always been in the 50th percintile for weight and height. He still met the weight limit for size three even at this age but I felt the were getting to short. We had one leak and I needed to buy more so I just went for the size 4! I'd buy ahead, besides stores easily will exchange diapers for a different size. Good luck! You have so much to look forward to!

Its so hard to tell. DD is 17 months and has plenty of room in her 3s, but there are 8-10 month olds in the infant room in 4s. There's also a boy who just turned 2 and still wears 3s. DD had chunky thighs that young too but she thined. She was 8lb 10oz at birth! My advice: just buy 3s, and you generally can exchange them for 4s if you have to.

Both of my DD's began wearing size 4's right before their first b-day and stayed in them till they potty trained (well dd6 did at 34 months of age) I am still working on DD2 ...LOL I am thinking she is gonna take a while!!

Can't remember for ds, but dd 23 mos is still in 3's and I have tried a 4 once in a while and she swims in it. It really depends on your child, though it is a big span for the 3's- it will probably be a while before you go up in size unless your child grows very quickly.

DS#2 started wearing size 4 at ~1 1/2 years. He's 2 1/2 now & still wears the size 4 to bed. He only moved out of a size 3 because he needed something more absorbent. He has no butt so he can stay in smaller sizes for quite some time. He's potty training & will never wear a size 5.

DS#3 is turning one in two weeks and he can wear a size 4 no problem, but he still can wear a size 3 no problem. He has a huge butt, so I think he'll need a size 4 in a month or two.

DS#1 (normal size butt) moved into a size 4 at about 9 months (wore a size 18 months, almost 24 month--very tall & lanky). He potty trained at 2, and was in a size 5 (barely) at that time.

My kids fly through sizes newborn - size 2, but hang out for quite some time in sizes 3-5.

I think more of it has to do with butt size & absorbency need rather than age & weight. My kids are always 50% lower in percentile for weight than in height. DS#1 100% height, 50% weight; DS#2 is 30% height, <5% weight; DS#3 is 70% height, 20% weight. If they weigh less, they probably pee less. And well, I mentioned their butt size above  . Hey, if it can't cover, it isn't doing its job as a diaper and if their butt is small, it's going to cover longer.

My son started to wear 4s at about 9 months. He has always been in the 75% for weight and height and he carries the weight in his tummy. We have actually been thinking we might have to move him to 5s soon as they have started to leak again, but we hope that we will get a growth spurt and the tummy will decrease a bit.

My DD is 13-1/2 mo. She is currently in a size 3 but they are starting to get small in the waist. I will buy a size 4 when I run out of these. She is in 50% for height & weight.

I've found it depends on the brand. My DS14mo is still in 3's, but we buy Huggies, since they seem to fit better.

(He also has the chunky thighs :) )

I don't think you can go wrong buying ahead. It does depend on the brand and how your son grows. As you already know, kids need A LOT of diapers! Heck, my just turned 3 y.o. still wears size 4 at night, but my girls are small and grow slowly! :) If you end up with too many, you can always donate them to a local help organization, give them to a friend, or save them for another baby...

My ds5 never made it to size 4 -- he's tall and skinny. He was still wearing a size 3 when he potty trained. My dd2 was chunky -- she wore size 4 from the time she was about 18 months until she potty trained. The last pack of pull-ups I bought were a 2T/3T for nights (although she never wears or needs them). The year between the time they turn 1 and 2, they start growing much taller which thins them down.

When was your son born? He sounds like mine! DS was born on 5/31 and he was 10 lbs 12 ounces so when we left the hospital we couldn't even take the free pack of diapers with us! He's in size 3 now (and he's 15 lbs. 4 ounces, 11 weeks old) and I hope he stays in them for a while - I bought 2 boxes of Pampers (144 in each box) at Target on clearance for $18!

Its all about the thighs! My dd started wearing 4's at 5 months old she was about 18 lbs with big thighs and a bit of a tummy. She is STILL in 4's and is almost 8 months old weights 22 lbs now. Hope that helps!

My son was also born 5/31 :) which is my birthday too :teeth:

Sounds like I should be okay with the 3's for at least a few more months. I tried to take back some size 2's (that I bought while pregnant) to Target because my ds had outgrown them. They said no because the receipt had expired and the packaging was different now (Huggies). So ds wore them for two more weeks. We had a few blowouts but they worked. I just don't want to get burned again :sunny: :sunny: I have about 5 Huggies $2 off coupons that expire soon.

Cool! Happy birthday to your son - how awesome to have him on your birthday. I'll have to watch your ticker to see how old the boys are :)

My kids were probably in 3's the shortest (next to newborn). One of my children was only in 3's for a couple of weeks and moved them up to 4's. If it were me I'd stock up on a few 3's but mostly 4's. Both my kids were in 4's forever!

My 10 month old has been in size 4's for almost a month now! That is something you just have to wait and see
