OT: Cute Snack (gifts) to Send to School

I'm looking for cute ideas of cute snacks to send to school for DD in PreK. I don't really have anything in particular in mind. I just want something cute. Not just brownies or something a bit "normal." It can be quick or a little timely. It can be seasonal or not. Just want some ideas of cute things. If you have pics, post them!

I saw an idea for Pilgram hat cookies where you take a Famous Chocolate Wafer and turn a peanut butter cup over and then use some decorators icing to make the buckle.

I've also seen Pumkin decorated cookies on a stick.

ETA: I do know to check with teachers first of course. And check for allergies.
ETA: I just mean as a gift for her friends. The school provides snacks. But occassionally we like to make things to give to her friends, so not as a regular snack.

I'd do something that's cute and healthy -- like cutting cheese into cool shapes and putting it onto crackers, or making "ants on a log" with celery, PB or Cream cheese and raisins, or fruit skewers, or 1/2 a bagel with cream cheese with a face drawn with raisins (add food coloring to make the cream cheese orange and you have a pumpkin).

I wouldn't want my child eating cookies or candy for snack on a regular basis.

Oh, I guess I should have said that, I'll add that to the op.
I just mean as a gift for her friends. The school provides snacks. But occassionally we like to make things to give to her friends, so not as a regular snack.

I dont have any pictures, but one year I dipped nutter butter cookies into white chocolate and turned them into a snowman. I used fruit roll ups to cut as scarves and hats and kind of glued them on with some melted chocolate. I used a little icing tube for the eyes and smiles

I also made fall scarecrows out of candy. I think that was a treat from the family fun magazine. You may be able to find it in the archives at familyfun.go.com. They have a TON of ideas. I also made snowman pins for the kids to wear out of felt. I hot glued real sticks as the arms and hot glued little bells to his hat.

My best friend does the cutest thing every Christmas -- Chocolate Mice -- she dips maraschino cherries (with stems) in dipping chocolate (chocolate with a bit of parrafin i believe) and then attaches the cherry (with the chocolate) to a hershey's kiss. two sliced almonds inserted in the chocolate between the cherry & the kiss make the ears and a little icing (the red gel in the tube is cute) makes eyes and whiskers if you like, of course the stem is the tail. They are adorable.

I love to do chocolate pretzel rods...
you can change them to any holiday or color or festivities....
I dip pretzel rods about 1/3 into melted chocolate. I refrig. and let harden.
Then I melt white chocolate and color it any color you want for the occasion.
Then drizzle it over the dipped pretzels and immediately sprinkle with a color or themed sprinkles. Once again refrig. to harden. I tie them in clear plastic treat bags with a coordinating ribbon. My DD's preschool kids LOVES these!
(I did them for her Bday.)

I do the same thing. I saw it on a website several years ago. It's always a big hit.


You might want to watch out for nuts because of allergies. You can bake cupcakes in ice cream cones the waifer kind. They work very well and kids usually get a kick at of them.

Worms and dirt cups...use clear plastic cups put in a scoop of chocolate lowfat pudding, sprinkle some oreo cookie crumbs (you can buy these in a box in the baking section) add a couple of gummy worms and you're done. My brother and sister love these.

FamilyFun magazine has a great cupcake idea every month. At Christmas I have done an ornament cupcake: Silver/gold foil, small reese's cup (upside down with pretzel hook), mini M&M's & red & green icing.

Just a thought that goes with it. I picked up in Target for my neice that is starting JK. Mini zip locks with Hello Kitty on them. In clearance I payed a little over $1.00.

I copied the "kids sushi" from California Grill for my son's birthday and it was a big hit -- and really easy. I just made rice crispie treats and put a gummy fish on each one.

For Halloween (or Fall Festival--whatever it's now called in your area)--For ghosts I dipped Nutter Butters in white chocolate and put 2 mini chocolate chips for eyes. They were the hit of the party (but beware of nut allergies).

Also for Halloween--take a clear, plastic glove and fill it with popcorn. Tie with orange or black yarn. Put one of those plastic spooky rings (you can get a bunch of them at the dollar store) on the ring finger. Fun and healthy!

Wonder how it would look to coat a teddy graham in white chocolate if you have some nut allergies. You could take a dark sprinkle dot (can't spell non pariel or whatever lol) and do that for the eyes? Two of DD's friends have nut allergies. (That's only 2 that I know of! lol.)

Not sure since I don't have any any allergies in this family---but don't most of the cereals and cookies these days state that they are made in plants where there are nuts processed?

It would probably take forever to do those little teddy grahams, but I suppose it would work! Maybe even just chocolate cover some oreos and drizzle with holiday covered icing, pretzels or even potato chips! Not real holidayish, but I'm not even sure kids care that much--they just wanna eat!

Maybe there's a marshmallow recipe somewhere out there that could be decorated somehow?

When DD was in K I made "Bonnet" cookies.

Large Sugar Cookie is the base
Cup cake turned upside down on top of cookie is the Bonnet-little frosting to hold in place.
Place cup/cookie on a wire cooling rack
Colored frosting, slightly heated in micro to thin & pour over to coat.
Let cool

Decorate with:
Sprinkles, stars, etc...
Fruit Roll ups cut into strips for the "brim" of the bonnet
Gum Drops cut into circles
mini m&m's

These were a huge hit with DD and her friends - very time consuming but worth it.

This can also be done with the mini cup cakes and a smaller cookie.

I love the chocolate covered pretzel idea! I guess I just don't understand - how do you get the chocolate to harden all the way around, won't one side be flat or is that OK? Also, when you drizzle the colored chocolate on, are you drizzling squiggly lines, or totally coating it - how do the sprinkles stick? And the next stupid question I have - how many do you put in each treat bag? Is one large pretzel rod enough? Thank you so much for the idea!!
