My dd wants a curling iron for Christmas. Today I checked out the selection at Target and they had curling irons starting at about $15 going all the way up to over $100. I don't know anything about them and have no idea why there is such a huge difference in price.

Does anyone have any advice on what to look for? I'm guessing that the super cheap ones aren't the very good, but how much do I have to spend to get a decent one? Are there any features that are really important?

I bought one for my daughter at Target yesterday. The important feature for her was tourmaline. I don't know exactly what that was but I had specific instructions to get one that was tourmaline!!! She is 20, btw, so we have been through many years of curling irons.

Also she wanted one that did medium/large curls, not the very tiny one that did corkscrew curls.

Edited to add: I just checked my receipt and I spent $22.95 - it was on sale from $24.95. So not an expensive one at all. I have found in the past (two daughters, ages 15 and 20, MANY MANY curling irons, hair dryers, and straighteners later!!) that hair dryers and curling irons come and go - we buy medium price and medium quality. Where we spend is with the top brand straighteners - CHI is the favorite at our house. Those last and last as opposed to the curling irons, etc - DD20 had a spring drop off her curling iron last week!!
