:upsidedow Well, I guess this could be a Disney-related question because I'm interested in any and all solo cruising experiences!

I love traveling, and am very fortunate to have a "travel buddy" who shares pretty much all of my likes and dislikes. However, one thing that I really, REALLY want to do that he has NO desire to do is to take a Transatlantic cruise. The rates seem really reasonable; if I find a good airfare, I figure I can do the whole thing for around $1500.

My question is; if you've cruised solo, how did you enjoy the experience? Was it as you expected? I tend to think of myself as an introvert; I'm pretty social, but I am much more happy in a lounge chair with my iPod and a book than in a bar, drinking and dancing the night away. Another factor is the single supplement; how much would that be for a standard inside room? (I'm not fussy!). I also know that the Norwegian Epic has what they call "studio" rooms for solo travelers that have no single supplement, but they look pretty darn tiny (the book said 100 sq ft). Just throwing the question out there to see if anyone has gone through the same thing! Thanks in advance! :flower3:

I'm really interested in this also. DH has no desire to cruise, so I always thought my dream of an Alaskan cruise would remain just that-a dream. But now I've started thinking a little more seriously of going solo.

The only time I've cruised was to Alaska. I took the last ship that went in the fall, so it was mostly people who lived there, who were going home for the winter on a one-way trip! That was much more interesting than traveling with just tourists like me. I had roommates that were found for me after getting on the ship. It was several years ago, so maybe they don't do it that way now...

I am sailing solo in May on Disney 14 night Transatlantic. got a good deal just over $2000 w/air. I am in an inside GTY. I have met a few other solo travelers on our Dis cruise meet. We have arranged to sit together for dinner. If you join a cruise meet, you will know a few people on board. My husband has encouraged me to go by myself since he can not get the time off.
I am excited an nervous since this is my first solo trip.

I completed the Magic Westbound TA Cruise in September 2010 and two other solo Disney cruise since then. I've even booked a solo trip for the maiden voyage on the Disney Fantasy in 2012, so I think I can provide a little advice.

I really enjoyed the Disney TA cruise and the entire experience that Disney provides. No one does it better. In my experience you can make your cruise experience whatever you want. I've met some great people on the cruise and on port adventures, however they where times when I just wanted to be alone to read, watch a movie and even dive alone and no one bothered me. In my experience you'll pay about a third of the cost for a single supplement, however there always deals and you could get a better bargain. I don't know much about the inside staterooms because I've always purchased a large family stateroom because I enjoy having the split bathrooms a window view.

One thing I do recommend is that if you decide to go on the TA cruise I suggest that you do the westbound and not the eastbound. The reason why is the time changes. You'll gain about five hours traveling westbound and lose five hours traveling eastbound. I definitely enjoyed the longer days. I hope this helps with your decision. Good luck.
