Hi!!

Looking for your help once again..... I will be driving down to Myrtle Beach from New Brunswick and was looking for some remedies for car sickness. I am sharing the driving with 4 other people so was hoping for something that wouldn't make me tired. I've only experienced car sickness when I have been reading while in the car, however I haven't been on a road trip this long before so I'd rather be safe than sorry :thumbsup2 .

Thank you!!

I have a huge problem with Gravol - the second I take it, knocks me right out. They have a new herbal gravol available, but the pharmacist told me that it isn't very good.

I started taking Bonamine, which is a chewable tablet that you take once in a 24 hour period. I have a bad motion sickness problem, and find that being a passenger in a car, and especially simulator rides (for example, Back to the Future at Universal) is comparable to death for me. I took Bonamine last year when I went and rode Back to the Future with no problem - got off the ride feeling great.

Otherwise, there are copper wristbands that you can get which will help too, but I have never tried this - don't know if they work. I keep with what works for me....

Hope this helps! Jo

I take Gravol. I have tried the herbal gravol (it's just ginger) and it did nothing for me. I get very bad motion sickness. I find none of the 'home remedies' (ginger, wrist bands, peppermints, chammomile tea) work for me. I definitely recommend no reading and no looking down for extended periods of time! Listen to music, sleep, talk, play car games, enjoy the scenery.....but do not read! I also find that travelling on an empty stomach or just coffee in my stomach makes everything worse. Eat soemthing starchy and bland (toast, cereal, bagel, etc) before you get on the road and make sure you have lots of non-acidic snacks. Good luck-if you don't usually get car sick, you'll probably be fine. I've had motion sickness since I was a very young child.

I'm very interested in this Bonamine listed above. Is it precription???

Have you ever seen the show Myth Busters on Discovery Channel?

They were promoting a segment for an episode where they were doing a bit on seasickness/motionsickness. I never did catch that episode but sometimes these guys have some interesting results.

Maybe I'll check and see if they have a web site.

I'll let you know if I find out anything.

Good Luck.

You do not need a prescription for Bonamine - It is an over the counter medication. In the States, it's called Dramamine, but they are the same meds.

All the pharmacies here carry their anti-nauseants behind the counter - you should be able to just ask for Bonamine. It comes in a 5, 10 or 15 pack.

Thank you so much for all your help! Think I'm going to pick up some bonamine and see how it goes :sunny: .

Thanks again!

Hi: I also say Bonamine. My daughter gets severe migraines from any kind of motion and when we drive she has a bonamine. Also at the parks she will take one in the a.m. and is okay.

Deb.

You all have convinced me. I'm going to try Bonamine (though I feel like a traitor since I've used Gravol for so long! LOL)

Make sure you sit in the front seat - either as passenger or offer to drive, and don't do any activity that has you reading (ie. don't read maps) or looking up and down (ie. video games!) I used to get car sick as a child and as soon as I was old enough I started riding in the front seat and have no problems as long as I'm up front. On business trips where we share cars, I always offer to do the driving or ask to sit up front! I don't have to take any medications as long as I sit up front and don't do any reading or don't turn around to talk to kids a lot...keep looking forward and enjoy the scenery!

I agree with Jo-Anne. As a kid I was always car sick. I still get queasy if I ride in the back seat. Sitting in the front seat (which encourages you to watch the horizon instead of the back of a seat) and plenty of fresh air are what helped me most. Being the driving is the best cure. Since your body knows what is coming up none of the internal signals get mixed up.

My solution is medicine-free. I discover why DD was getting car sick on long trips to visit my folks (+7hrs drives). Believe it or not tht is what I learned. There is alot of electrical "stuff" going on in the car - power windows, etc. So I was told to put on those stirps (at the back of the car) to ground the car. I kid you not, DD is no longer car sick. Ever!!! They also make it easier to find my car in the parking lot :teeth:
