Ok, I am trying to get a decent night sleep for once.I wake up every morning with a back ache.My current mattress is the cheapest innerspring , no frills 7yr old mattress you could find.DH says he likes it ,but he can sleep on the floor without problems.Thinking about a Tempur-Pedic or Sealys version of Tempur-pedic but not sure.Any ideas out here? TIA:goodvibes

Select Comfort!
I used to wake up every morning with back pain. I wanted a new mattress, but DH wanted a firm matrees and I wanted soft... So we decided on the Select Comfort so we could both have what we THOUGHT we wanted. Ends up his number is 30-35 (softer) and I like mine around 80-85 (firmer). I need the support to prevent the back pain. I now have no problems and we LOVE our bed! :lovestruc

We have a Jamison 5 star foam. We love it:cool1: :cool1: It is about half the price of sleep number ect and I no longer have the back pain I woke up with daily on our old innerspring. I have had it about two years and still love it.

Here's somethign to know about mattresses.

All the major mattress makers only have a limited amount of criteria for making mattresses, however they make completely different "model name" for each company.

for example Sears may have a "Serta XYZ" mattress which is exactly the same as a "Serta ABC" mattress from 1-800-Mattress.

When shopping, compare the specifications of your mattress and not name brands.

Thanks for all your tips...keep them coming. I had heard from somewhere else that all the major mattress brands( Sealy, Serta, and Simmons) are all made at the same place but go by different names. So I will definitely go by comfort and not the name.

We have a Sterns & Foster and love it!

We have a sleep number bed by select comfort and I LOVE that we can adjust the firmness. I am weary of foam (just my personal issue) because of allergies, even though some of them are allergy resistant.

Stearns and Foster also makes Sealy mattresses, and there's a Sealy counterpart for every S&F model. So if you like S&F, find the equivalent Sealy. In fact, we liked our Sealy more than the equivalent S&F - it's a little better for DH's bad back. We tried a Select Comfort and it was a joke. It sent him into back spasms. The Tempurpedic mattresses seem nice, and I was tempted, but we kept hearing how you get really hot while using them.

Yeah, I heard that about the tempur-pedic ones too.

Yes..Us too and we love it. It is 16-17 inches thick and had a difficult time to flip every month, but it has held up well over the past 10 years.

Encouraging to hear..I really want a memory foam mattress. My Dh isn't sure.I heard they take some time to get used to and they initially aren't as comfy as the demo in the store ,true? Do they have an odor at all?

We got our Tempurpedic mattress nearly 2 years ago and love it. It is more comfortable than when we tried it out in the store and I didn't have to get used to it at all. Well, maybe when I'd sit on the bed to get dressed or something, the edge kinda sinks, but for sleeping it has always been fine.

They do have an odor when you first get them, so my advice would be to leave it without sheets for a couple of days so it can air out. As long as you have another place to sleep that is! The odor isn't terrible though, and it goes away quickly so not a huge problem.

A huge bonus we've found with ours is that my husband no longer snores since we got it! He also just got a Tempurpedic pillow this weekend and loves it, so you might want to look into that too. Another bonus is that they can't get those nasty mites that live in regular mattresses.

Oh, the only problem I ever had with the Tempurpedic was that I was 6 months pregnant when we got it and as my son grew, my belly would sorta pull me down in the bed each night. I ended up sticking a regular pillow under it and was fine, but it wasn't so comfortable before I figured that out. Other than the pregnant belly, I haven't had one problem with the bed.

We also have a sleep number bed. It wasn't cheap, but my husband is bed picky - as soon as there is a body divot, he thinks its time for a new mattress (long before the divot is deep enough for the warrenty to kick in). We'd gone through three good mattresses in seven years, then got our sleep number. No divot seven years later. My sister and her morbidly obese husband (350 lbs) have had one for over twelve years - which is what sold me on ours. I figure if BIL can't put a dent in that mattress, my merely obese (230 lb) husband won't be able to either.

The one complaint is that every so often it decides it really needs to reset in the middle of the night, which starts up the motor. Doesn't happen very often (hasn't happened in years), but it wakes you up when it does.

We had a memory foam topper that was smelly for the first couple of days, but that went away. I think I'd like to get a Tempurpedic type mattress for my guest room, and then try it out for myself. :goodvibes

I have had a Tempurpedic for 8 years now, and would never have anything else.
It must just be me but I do not get hot in it, I still sleep with my thick cover!!!!!!

DH and I used to wake up every morning in severe pain and exhausted from tossing and turning all night long . . . and our mattress was only about 6 - 7 years old. We went with the Sleep Number adjustable and thank God every night we did! It is WONDERFUL!! It has the memory foam mattress pad and I literally sink into it each night and stay put! Well worth the $$!

I am on my second select comfort bed. LOVE THEM. I started in 2001 with a 4000 non-pillow top. It was too firm and never could get it right but this last year we splurged and got a 7000. So comfy.

Head into a store and check it out. They are always running sales.

Just yesterday I got the W hotel heavenly bed with the pillow-top. It is amazing! My husband had stayed at a Westin in Seattle last year & all he talked about was how comfy the bed was. They're having a 40% sale now so the King set delivered was around $1000. I found the code on slickdeals . net. I had the best night sleep last night & my previous was a pretty good sealy. You really feel like you're sleeping on a cloud :cloud9: . Even the delivery guy said he had three other of the W Hotel beds on his truck which is 1 800 mattress & that they've been selling a lot of them lately. I was so impressed with the mattress that I went back to the website & spent a ridiculous amount on their pillows. Good luck with your search!:)

it does make you hot,but i also live in texas!! ours never had a odor and its like sleeping on clouds :cloud9: we are buying our kids their own memory foam mattress! i found out after 7 yrs my husband snores:lmao: i will never get a mattress again!!
