Just wanted to say to all of you affected by the flooding in Calgary keep safe and dry. I have family who live downtown and they have been evacuated. Pictures I have seen are unbelievable. Be safe.

Things are insane, 25 communities evacuated, me being one of them. The river's just getting worse!!

Thank you! Its pretty crazy here! BIL &SIL have been evacuated. Thankfully us, and my sisters are on higher ground. My mom suffered some flooding in her basement but not due to the rivers, from the rain!

Its utter devastation through the downtown core and many of the communities will need complete rebuilding.

Its especially sad to see where the Stampede grounds are under water! Over 109 years of Stampede tradition due to take place in two weeks may be cancelled, people have lost their lives and their livelihoods too.

Southern Alberta needs your prayers! Keep them coming! Thank you all!

Lots and lots and lots of best wishes and thoughts from here too. Be safe. :):goodvibes

Prayers to all of you!

We have plans to fly into Calgary on July 16, in a little more than 3 weeks and stay in Canmore for a week.

Should we make alternate plans?

Thanks & please be safe & heed the warnings!

I don't think they have any current estimates on when Hwy 1 into Canmore from Calgary will be reopened, as a good portion of it is gone. Definitely check on where you were planning on staying in Canmore, the higher areas are alright, but if your hotel was in an area near the water that will probably be a no-go. Hopefully we'll get some more news from there soon!

I wouldn't wait...I'd cancel altogether or at least switch my accomodations to Banff if at all possible. I don't know what you were planning to do in Canmore but even if your hotel happens to be open by then the town is still going to be a hugh mess. Almost nothing in Banff was water-damaged, presuming you can get there from here. There are alternate routes (from the south and from the northwest) but they will add hundreds of miles to the trip (normally 40 minutes from Calgary).

JSYK, the City is also in serious disarray; 100,000 people were evacuated and most of them still have no idea if/when they can return home. With the rain & hail pounding down and the water rising everywhere yesterday was like something out of a movie...millitary convoys from CFB Edmonton were everywhere, grocery stores were mobbed and people were hoarding food and water. Tons of roadways were impassable and traffic jams were epic - you couldn't leave the City to the south or the west. All you could hear for hours on end was the whipping wind and continuous emergency vehicle sirens and helicopter blades. Surreal. Luckily there have been no casualties in Calgary proper (three to the south in High River). Thank you for your prayers.

My nephew is the coach for the Calgary Hitmen, he's been notified that the entire lower bowl of the Saddledome (including the offices, dressing rooms and archives) are under water. The water at it's highest was up to the bottom of the corporate boxes (just below the concourse). Unreal, completely unreal.

Things have been insanely hectic! The entire downtown core beig underwater and the saddledown being a pool has been insane to see! Pictures and videos are just as crazy, Ive seen power lines, trees, even houses beig swept away by the bow.

Luckily things seem to be clearing up and there are residents able to return home today! The neighbourhood next to mine was cleared this evening, but I havent heard anything about mine yet! I only hope the upcoming 4 days of rain don't affect anything!

Thank you to everyone for your prayers & well wishes, now take a moment to direct those to High River who got hit way worse than us, the entire town is in shambles and there are at least 3 dead. :(

Now the flood watch has travelled out to various towns around Alberta & even up to Edmonton, Devon, a small town West(?) of Edmonton is on evacuation as water levels rise. Eck.

Continuing prayers for all who have been affected. Donations can be made to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Stay strong and know that across the country Canadians are thinking of you.
