OT, but y'all are Ipod experts & I need help!!

So, I bought an Ipod Nano about 7 mo ago and have put NOTHING on it because my DD has one & all my 'know it all' teens/20s say that if I plug my ipod into the computer where her library is, it will automatically put her stuff on my ipod & if I change it, then it will put my stuff on hers.

Is there anyone who can in 'non-geek' help me learn how to put stuff on my Ipos w/o disrupting the universe??? I really would like it for my walking and for a 3 day train trip coming soon.

Julie--I'm no expert, I just know enough to get by with my ipod. But I think your kids are right. If you plug your ipod into the computer with her iTunes library on it, it should first recognize your ipod (if it's the first time you've plugged that ipod in, it will go through a few setup steps--nothing too hard, basically just "naming" your ipod, etc) and then it will ask you if you want to load your ipod with all the music it finds in the iTunes library. If you say yes, it should load all of those songs.

I think that's right. It's been awhile since I loaded a new ipod into our iTunes. Now keep in mind that the boys over at Apple have put in a few security measures to make it harder to "share" songs from your ipod to another iTunes library. Basically, if you have synched your ipod to a different computer already, it will be harder to get all of your DD's music. But if you haven't connected your ipod to a different computer with iTunes, you'll be just fine.

Someone else may be able to explain better, but really--just plug in your ipod to the usb port on the computer, boot up iTunes and let it go.

ps--by the way, you shouldn't mess up your DD's ipod if you load more songs on yours, unless she has it set up to automatically add new songs whenever she connect to iTunes. And even then, I believe it will just add the new stuff to hers, not delete anything she already has on there.

In the options area, you can set iTunes to manually sync to the iPod. This will let you select whatever songs you want on the iPod and deselect the others. This way both you and your daughter can have music in iTunes but don't have to download to each others iPod. Once you select the songs or playlists that you want, just sync it up and it will put your selections on the iPod.

I know that you can create separate libraries on the same computer, and when you start I-tunes if you hold down the shift button you can tell it which library to start with.

I'm pretty sure that if you start Itunes, choose a library, then connect the Ipod that you shouldn't have an issue with cross synchronizing the I-pods.

Mike is right. By holding down the shift key as you open i-tunes it will ask you which library you want to sync to. Right now on my computer I juggle my ipod, my wife's ipod and my daughters. Each of us has very different taste in music. So far there have been no problems but I am the only one in the family who knows how to do this so if something gets messed up it is my fault.

I am computer illiterate, but I know that Scott and I have separate libraries on our I-PODs and a library that we can pick from to add things to our particular I-POD,s. Scott see this up, so I do not know how it was set up, I just know that I can add things to the main library, then download them to my I-POD, and if he wants them, he would have to download them to his I-POD.
