Taking a break is a good idea.
You should see an RE after your break - Clomid will do nothing for you if your tubes are blocked - and could increase your chances of having an epotic pregnancy and harming your fertility further. You need to be monitored. Also, drugs in general are not something you should be taking lightly - eight Clomid cycles are two more than my RE would permit before trying something else - simply because he felt longterm use of Clomid could have longterm negative health consequences. Eight Clomid cycles unmonitored with little other diagnostic work done is shocking to me.
I never got pregnant on Clomid or on Fertinex which followed my six Clomid cycles - we then gave up and decided to adopt since the fertility drugs were making me nuts (which made my husband suffer). I did get pregnant accidentally years later when we weren't trying.
