I have some brass home interior pieces and some parts that have turned spotty and darker in color over the years. What would I use to clean/brighten this up? Im not sure if a commercial brass cleaner is what I need because I dont know if this is real brass..just the look alike.

Thanks in advance!

Try brasso (can be purchased at Walmart or a similar type store for a few dollars) on an inconspicuous spot on the piece (just in case it doesn't work). I haven't used brasso in a few years, but I am 99.99% sure that I have used it on non-brass items and it works great! :)

I second the recommendation for Brasso. I have used it on a lot of metal surfaces and it does a great job!

I will get some Brasso...it is ok to use on the home interior brass stuff?

Read the label to be sure but I have never had any problems.

Found this online if it helps:

The old-fashioned metal polish. Not the most powerful, but it certainly works. I use it when I want to pour a large quantity on a rag and polish quickly.

For pewter, brass, chrome, copper, and stainless steel.

Brasso ia a multipurpose metal polish that contains a low level of abrasives. Brasso will not scratch metals-it leaves a smooth, polished surface and a brilliant shine.

Do not use on aluminum, silver, or laquered finishes.
