OT, but great budget improvement..

I saw on pinterest a woman posted instructions and pictures of her laminate countertops that she painted to look like granite. They looked so good, and I hate mine but it's not in the budget to replace them, so I tried it... and it worked perfectly!! I did it all myself (DH is in Belgium on business this week), and it took me from about 1 pm to about 10 pm. I still need to put more coats of polyacrylic on, but will do 1 more tonight, then 1 more after work tomorrow. I am so excited that my countertops look so much like granite... and I only spent a little under $50.00!!!

Unfortunately, our laminate countertops are bulging and buckling in a few spots so painting them won't help that.

They need replacing.

We did this with a kit from Lowe's. About $300, 2 years ago, and no complaints

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your success with this! I've seen it on Pinterest and wanted to try it, but was really afraid of totally ruining my counters (I hate the color, but they are in good shape otherwise). You may have inspired me to look into this further! I think I would start with my island... that way if I hate it, I would only have to replace the one piece.

Ours is too. We got a quote last week to replace them with quartz (can't afford granite right now) and it was still over $5000.

Oh I'd love to see pics of how yours turned out. Wish I could talk hubby into it. Hmm...him and kids are going out of town for 3 days in Dec. while I stay home and work. That could be a late nights project for me.
