Hello :sunny:

Wondered if anyone would like to share what they have for their breakfast on Christmas morning? We are having family over on Christmas morning and I would like to make a few simple things .... like a good coffee cake or something similar!!!

I'd love to hear what you have for your breakfast on Christmas morning ... I'm sure there are some great traditions :flower:

Thanks so much ...

Kerri

We usually do a big breakfast with eggs, bacon, grits and such. My cousin used to send this stuff called "schneckin" and we'd eat that too. One year I went out of my way to try and make breakfast pizza, which so wasn't worth the effort for a non-cook. This year, I am seriously considering donuts.

You want great coffe that smells amazing? Safeway's select brand that comes in a white and gold bag is so great I question the presence of pot just cuz it makes me feel so good.. ha ha. I like the hazelnut and the chocolate macadamia. I add the new flavored creamers by International Delights, too. Trust me you cant go wrong.

I love smoked salmon and scrambled egg. You could rustle up some Cranberry muffins, your house will smell delicious.

Since I bought my boyfriend's daughter a waffle maker, I'm hoping for Mickey Waffles!!!

Our tradition is kinda sad. My MIL is a great cook & baker. So at their house they always have THEE most WONDERFUL homemade cinamon rolls on Christmas am. Well, I don't cook OR bake, so here my poor DH is stuck with the pillsbury dough just-pop-open-the-can cinamon rolls every year on Christmas. He's a good sport tho, and doesn't complain! After 16 years together he's used to me by now. And he hasn't said "Why don't you ask my mom how to make this" for about 10 years now. He gave up!

Sandcass, you should try frozen Sister Schubert cinamon rolls. They are to die for!!! And you pop them in the oven straight from the freezer. We are having them plus a sausage breakfast casserole that my Mom makes. I will probably also make some fruit dip (marshmallow creme + cream cheese mixed together) with assorted fruits. Merry Christmas everyone!!

I am planning to make scrambled eggs, fruit salad, and cinnamon rolls. I've always been a pillsbury girl, too, but I found this recipe that I am going to try and it sounds delicious!

3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, softened
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 (.25 ounce) package instant yeast
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
1 egg

Filling:

1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, softened

Frosting:

3 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

Heat the milk in a small saucepan until it bubbles, then remove from heat. Mix in butter; stir until melted. Let cool until lukewarm. (I have carefully done this step in the microwave too).

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/4 cup flour, yeast, sugar and salt; mix well. Add water, egg and the milk mixture; beat well. Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. When the dough has just pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes. (I use my kitchenaid for all of this, and knead it in there too.)

Lightly grease a glass bowl. Place dough in bowl and cover with damp cloth. Let rise in a warm, draft free place until double in size. Meanwhile mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

When doubled in size, punch down. Lightly flour your counter top or a bread board and roll dough out into a 16x21 inch rectangle (give or take a little). Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter. Sprinkle evenly with cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13" pan. Cover and let rise until doubled (a half hour or so).

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Bake rolls in preheated oven 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Meanwhile beat together ingredients for the frosting. Spread frosting on warm rolls and serve!

This year I'm making a Blackberry French Toast recipe I got on the $40 per Day show on Food Network. You layer bread that has been dipped in french toast stuff in a casserole dish with blackberries between the layers (I do bread / berries / bread / berries / bread) You then pour the remaining mix over the top, sprinkle with sugar and bake for an hour. It is easy and very good!

We're having cranberry coffee cake (yummy!) I have also done in the past a blueberry french toast cobbler, which you make the night before and just bake in the am. I definitely don't cook on Christmas morning!

Kim ... do you have a recipe for your blueberry french toast cobbler? It sounds yummy!! :p

My mom has offered to make quiche (so I've taken her up on this offer ;) ) ... and I've found a recipe for a coffee cake that has raspberries in it. So I am going to make this. I've also ordered a fruit platter, which everyone will like. I'm not sure if this is enough, or if I should still come up with something else.

Actually, this is funny b/c my brother and I were talking the other day about how Christmas breakfast was our favorite tradition. Dinner tends to be lots of people-breakfast is just the immediate family. We always have pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs and a coffee cake ring from my aunt. Breakfast is at my grandparents (who live next door to my parents). We use 2 electric griddles, the stove, and the microwave to get everythin on the table. We don't eat until presents are opened--maybe about 10AM? So we are all starving and dive right in.
Good luck! If I was cooking-I'd try and make it easy on myself-lots of "make ahead" things. Actually, Martha Stewart has some good brunch ideas that seem really easy. Or you could check out epicurious.com for some ideas.

i tend to have snacky stuff for the kids like donuts, pillsbury cinnamon rolls, danish...(they wake up so early they usualy fall back asleep until early afternoon). as for us grown ups (me, dh, my mom) i am going to grab some english muffins, eggs, and holindase sauce mix tonight-then we will sneak some slices off the "honey baked ham" and have eggs benedict.

Mmmmmmm - Christmas breakfast!!!!

Moravian Sugar Cake - a staple around these parts at Christmas, along with some Moravian cookies

Ham biscuits made with Marshall's biscuits (although must also give a shout out to Sister Schubert - everything she makes is yum!!) and country ham slices

Fruit (mainly apples - we bought Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Gala, with caramel dipping sauce)

Hot chocolate, sparkling apple cider, or sparkling apple cranberry cider.

I love Christmas food!!!!!!!

This year I am making Monkey bread(you use refrigerator biscuits, cut into pieces rolled in cinnamon and sugar, add butter to a bundt pan and bake, its like sticky rolls)Grandma used to make this all the time. Probably just oj or hot chocolate with because we are having huge turkey dinner in the afternoon.
