My dd's 4th birthday party is today. Of course she's having a Mickey party, her choosing, lol.

Anyway, I'm nervous. This is her first party with several friends of her's. I think there will be at least 16 people there, this is friends, relatives, adults included, but I'm nervous. First I'm nervous because of putting on an "appropriate party." Everyone is asking me if I got gift bags and what the craft is. Well I can't afford gift bags, I'm a single Mom doing it all on my own, so if they are mad, so be it. I have pulled together a craft of bead necklaces and bracelets, but that was kinda spur of the moment.

We are having cake and ice cream, and it's at a local park so there is playground equipment there. So I think the kids should be plenty entertained.

Now for the second part of my nervousness. My dd will be the youngest person there. Yes she is the birthday girl, but I still worry about the "mean girl" syndrome, lol. I don't know why I worry, my dd is very outgoing, not nervous at all, she is always around adults, and very outspoken, but still you have that fear.

I guess I just needed to ramble a bit. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Thoughts? Wanna share? LOL

The best parties DS (4) have been to are the ones where there isn't too much structure, just lots of room to run and lots of playtime with other kids.
As for the crafts ... well, who cares? Beads are cool, but it's about the fun more than anything.
Just remember to enjoy it and take lots of pictures!

Why do we make kids birthday parties into huge events? Who has the money to spend hundreds of dollars for a kids party (that they will only remember from the pictures!) The best parties we have had for our kids are the ones we had at our home without all the frills. When my daughter turned 6, I asked her if she wanted to go somewhere for her bday or if she wanted it at home. If we went out, only one or two friends could be invited... I pointed out that at home we could invite her whole class... and that's what we did. We had it at home and made a 'water park' in our backyard with sprinklers and a splash pool. It rained, but the kids didn't care and ran around and got soaked.

Don't worry if you don't have gift bags or other frills! I personally think gift bags are highly over rated... candy and cheap plastic toys that break when you get home!

Hope you have a wonderful party!

oh the party will be fine...generally...kids aren't mean to the birthday kid....they are the ones supplying the cake :)
and..as far as gift bags? bah...dont worry about it...you're at the playground and you have cake :)

Have fun and happy bday to your little one!!

I bet the birthday party was a success! It is a beautiful day in Indiana!! My DD loves crafts, but in my birthday party experiences half the kids don't even want to do them. They just want to play!

Add me to the list of people who do not like gift bags! My kids don't need any more stuff! I didn't do them for my 9 year old's party this year!

It went pretty well. Other then one little girl trying to open all my dd's presents. I mean not that it was a big deal, but I was just like let my dd look at what she got before you rip it out of her hands please, lol.

The beads went over pretty well, but I think they would've been just as happy to just run and play on the playground equip.
