How long do you give your kids baby cereal? I might have over-stocked up on cereal due to coupons and sales, and I'm not sure my DS will still be eating it before it expires....

Let's see...he started on cereal at 4 months old, by recommendation of the pediatrician. He is 15 months old now. I would say that he was about 1 year when we stopped giving him that and started on regular oatmeal. He eats Cheerios and Rice Krispies now and loves them! I did go through lots of baby cereal though during that time, so don't worry! I guess for us he was on it about 8 months.

My DD ate it for about 2 months, she didnt care for it. My son ate it like ONCE!!! He went straight to regular baby food......at 3 months!!!

I don' think mine ever ate baby cereal. Baby rice at 4 months then on to ready brek and then weetabix at 6 months. Can't remember when she added rice krispies but probably at about 12 months. The ony thing I used baby rice for after about 6 months was if she had a stomach upset - was lovely and bland! (I too threw out an unopened box of baby rice).

I was just realizing that I overstocked, too...My guess is we will only have gone through maybe 5 boxes. We started it at 6 months and it seems that she'll be mostly on finger food within a month (at 9 months). With DS, I think we kept mixing it with fruit in the mornings until he was almost a year, but now it's just so much easier to have the baby feed herself, since I have two to look after. :)

I'm donating a few boxes to our children's shelter. It's on their "wish list".

I think that's so nice! A few months back, the post office here was collecting non-perishable foods for donation. We all donated food. My mother actually donated 6 boxes of regular pasta because she only buys whole wheat ever since my dad was diagnosed with diabetes. They felt it went to good use, and they would have given it away anyway, or worse, thrown it out and wasted it. We always donate whatever we can, especially things like the kids' outgrown clothes (only the clean ones of course), and their toys they do not use anymore. We figure someone can always use it anc it will make another child happy!

I used about 4 boxes for my DD. I gave my leftovers to the church food pantry. They are always asking for baby food.

DS was done with baby cereal by about 9 - 10 months. He started at 5 months and only liked oatmeal (not rice cereal). I used some of the rice cereal at times to "thicken up" some of his homemade baby cereal that was a bit too thin, but other than that, we went through about 4 boxes of oatmeal before he was on to regular oatmeal.

I think it depends on your baby. My youngest two ate it for about 5-6 months but my oldest loved it and ate it until he was 2.

both kiddo's ate it from about 3.5/4 months to probably 5 months. Then we went strait to baby food. I did use the leftover cereal in the baby food to thicken it up a bit though. Sometimes it was just sooo runny and messy!

My kids ate it forever! My older two both started solids at 4 mos. Started with rice cereal and switched to baby oatmeal at about 6 mos. They both ate it for breakfast until about 18 mos. My youngest is now 21 mos. He started solids at 6 mos, and probably started eating baby oatmeal at about 8 mos. He still eats it every morning for breakfast. He loves it! I usually mix some pureed fruit into it for flavor. He's not a great eater, so when I find something that he loves and wants to eat, I'm thrilled! :)

I didn't start DD on solids until 6 months but she only ate baby cereals a handful of times - she just did not like it.
