OT: Attention Chicagoans! I need SUBURBAN restaurant recommendations!

White Fence Farm in Lemont

Everyone thinks of chicken when they hear White Fence Farm but they have great steak as well. Don't forget to get a doggie bag to take home some extra corn fritters. :lovestruc

Honey Jam Cafe for breakfast. Yum!! They have a location in Lombard and Batavia.

I haven't tried Honey Jam yet but they are opening one in the new strip mall behind the new Portillo's on Boughton and Rt53 in Bolingbrook. Did you know that they are owned by the same family that owns Portillos?

Also, Hackney's for burgers and onion loaf. There are several locations, but our favorite is Lake Zurich because they have a huge screened in porch and huge grounds.

And they were on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives or some other food show (though we'd been going for years).

I cant belive I forgot to mention our fave breakfast/lunch place! They are closed by 2pm but Wildberry in Libertyville is fantastic as well! They serve delicious meals and terrific coffee! :thumbsup2

Southwest Suburbs

Capri -Palos Heights - Italian

Tin Fish - Tinley Park - Fish

Gibbons - Oak Forest - Steak

Egg and I - Tinley Park - Breakfast

Petey's II - Orland Park - American

Louie's Chophouse - Oak Lawn and Shorewood - Steak

Krapils the Place for Steak - Worth - Steak

I love Firkin in Liberyville...such great food with a fantastic atmosphere! Opa! a greek restaurant in Vernon Hills is excellent!

I didn't really care for Firkin. But it wasn't really my kind of food. I think its Russian?? I ended up having a burger with some really nice cheddar and really good bacon. It was really good as far as burgers go. But there was nothing else really on the menu that interested me.

There is something besides chicken at White Fence Farm??????? :lmao: Well, I do know they have fried shrimp too. We held a meeting there once and it was a Friday in Lent, so I had to have the shrimp as an option too.

mmmmm - Louie's Chophouse. Almost forgot about them. They give you a free meal up to $25 on your birthday - which means I will be eating there in less than 2 weeks. Makes getting older a little easier....

I grew up in the suburbs and every time we go back to visit my parents we get pizza from Mama Maria's in Elmhurst. http://www.mammamariaselmhurst.com/index.html It's a small restaurant but I think the pizza tastes better when you eat it there cause the crust doesn't get soggy. We get the thin crust. Wish I could find something in San Diego like it!

I love portillo's italian beef sandwiches. Yum!

:thumbsup2 I don't thik Portillo's is a national chain even though I think they deliver nationally. My sister was so excited when we decided to have my mom's birthday party there. She lives in CT and said they don't have italian beef sandwiches there (not sure if they just don't have them like Portillo's or if she hasn't found them yet but she has lived on the East Coast area for over 20 years now!). I found that funny but then again, I haven't found an Italian beef I like as well as theirs anywhere else.

I will say Honey Jam is pretty good. We went there for breakfast after a work meeting and I thought you got a decent amount of food for the money...some of the other people thought it as a bit pricey.

There is also Mother's but I think it's Aurora? I think there is another one somewhere else too. I don't know if that's a national chain though or not.

Although -- do you know about the Seven Dwarfes in Wheaton? So much fun to go there and get a bit of a Disney fix.

Have you tried the FISH at White Fence Farm? Sooo good!!! It's a generous portion and the breading is very yummy. Now we mix who in our party is ordering chicken and who is ordering fish so we get the both of best worlds! :goodvibes

also want to add Palermo's Pizza in Oak Lawn on 95th street. Their sauce...:worship:

Two of my favorite local places are:

Cafe Salsa in Countryside for mexican.

and

Palmer's in Lagrange for great burgers.

Wow! That's very nice of them!

I'll check it out!

I don't believe Portillo's is a national chain, either. Their ribs are fantastic as well.

Wow, you guys are like mesmerized by this place! I better check it out!

We used to go to Palermo's when I was in high school after homecoming and such! Wow! Memories!

Cafe Salsa in Countryside for mexican.

Palmer's in Lagrange for great burgers.

Yum and Double Yum! LOVE those places!!! I've yet to find better quesidillas than cafe salsa!

Two more I forgot to mention in my prior post:

Courtright's in Willow Springs - beautiful and elegant. We like to go here for a special occasion and order the chef's menu with wine pairings.

Meson Sabika in Naperville for tapas

Palermos in Oak Lawn. Good food - terrible service and attitude. I used to love the place but have not been happy with them in a few years. Keep your good memories and don't ever go back.

Tacos El Norte for Mexican- They are a small chain, and I go to the one in Libertyville

Egg Harbor Cafe and Walker Brothers for breakfast. Both have a few locations

Claim Company in Northbrook for burgers and a really nice little salad bar.

Golden Chef in Wheeling for Chinese. It is a dive, but the food is great.

My Pie in Northbrook for pizza. Lou Malnati's is great too.

Now I'm hungry!

I finally thought of the name of one of the restaurants I was going to suggest. It is Bohemian Gardens in Downers Grove. We have meetings there at least once per year. It has things like sauerbraten, roast chicken, dumplings, etc. We always have a lot of food that is good and slightly different (at least from what I normally get when I go out to eat) and is one of the more inexpensive places where we have our monthly meetings. The place never seems to be that busy, though. Not sure why.

Best Vietnamese food - Hue Palace in Joliet. Hands down the best, owners are super nice and can't beat the price. My husband and I get either eat there or get take out at least 1-2 times a week!
