We have Rogers Hi-Speed and, over the past couple of months, it was taking a really long time for pages to load. So much so that often Internet Explorer was timing out before graphic intensive webpages could load. I finally got around to calling Rogers technical support to confirm that it was an issue at their end rather than my PC and the techie confirmed that the node I was on was unusually slow. We currently subscribe to Hi-Speed Express which, at the time we signed up for Rogers internet cable, was the only type Rogers offered.
It turns out that there is no additional monthly cost to upgrade from Hi-Speed Express to Hi-Speed Extreme except that you have to buy ($99) or rent ($3 / month) a new cable modem that can support the Hi-Speed Extreme service. So, I took my cable modem to our local Rogers Video store and upgraded today to Hi-Speed Extreme. Boy, what an improvement! Part of my problem was that, as one of the early subscribers for Hi-Speed cable, I had a Terayon brand cable modem which requires different hardware at Rogers end to connect than what is used for the newer style Motorola cable modems Rogers is currently issuing to new customers. The technician noted that the communication speed on the node in my area that supported the Terayon cable modems were about 7 times slower than the node that supported the Motorola cable modem that I got today. So, the service improvement that I am seeing now could very well be attributable solely to the fact that they had to migrate me to another node that has less traffic.
I thought I would post this in case anyone else was experiencing slow connection times with their Roger's Hi-Speed connections. (I'm sure Rogers would have eventually done something to improve the communication speed on the node I was on before but I wasn't confident that it would be any time soon.)
