I 've been tying to get thru to the RC2 co. that recalled the red engines. Has anyone gotten thru yet? Could you tell me what they told you? The busy signal is going to drive me nuts!;)

I've been trying for 25 mins and busy, busy, busy. :furious:

Even the website on the recall notice comes up "Service Unavailable" :sad2:

I just went on to www.rc2corp.com, clicked on the recall info and printed out the form in about 2 minutes. Last night was a different story but it was really quick as of a few minutes ago. We have about 12 of the recalled pieces. And what makes it worse is they make you pay to ship it back. :headache:

Thanks. I'm pretty mad about this too. What were they thinking?

I've been seeing TONS of lead notices on the recall site recently. I'm thinking some supplier waaaaaay down the line lied about the lead in their products, and other companies that are more known to us used their products...

I just spent the last half hour gathering the pieces. I am missing the one from Day Out with Thomas. I know it's here somewhere.
I'm pretty irritated that we have to pay to ship it to them. It doesn't seem right.

Oh, and I heard some people have had luck taking back the pieces to Toys R Us.
Has anyone here done that? I called ours but they said they could only take it back with the packaging, which, of course- I don't have!!

I e-mailed them yesterday about getting a postage paid mailer and this is the reply I got:

Dear XXXX:

Thank you for the inquiry.

A train valued at $20.00 will be used for shipping.

Consumer Service

So I'm guessing they will add an extra train in with the replacements? I agree that it is horrible that we have to pay shipping/insurance for their mistake.:sad2:

I gathered up all my pieces today--and wouldn't you know it--I'm missing James! I have two coal cars and a battery operated James, but no regular James. It's going to cost me much more than $20 to ship my stuff back with insurance. I have the ice cream factory and it's heavy!

FWIW, I couldn't get through either and gave up.

Good luck to us all!

Blakely

I got through yesterday. I went to "contacts" on thier page then clicked on one of the companies (I think New York office) and was put on hold. Then the person emailed me the form (it is available on the site if you can get through)
My son is very upset that he has to give up so many trains.

I am not sure if I am going to return the "Day Out" one I have or not, it is still in the box and it is put on a shelf as a "memory" of my sons birthday trip last year.

I found the form on line finally. I feel awful DS has been looking for James since he is playing with his train table right now. Also my dog ate the paint and chewed on the stop sign :sad2: she is only 7 lbs. and I'm hoping she doesn't have lead poison. She did this about a month ago.

This is the link for the return form (US)

But you need to add the return form to the box, it is on thier website. They will also email it to you if you can get through on their phone system.

from the recall site:

"Postage will be reimbursed via separately-mailed check at the estimated U.S. Postal Service ground rate."

It also mentions that you will receive a free "gift"

Now if only I could find the coal tender . . . too many trains!!!!!!!!

So if I send all this out now.. and then happen to find the Day Out with Thomas one later on, I can still send it in, right? I don't see why I shouldn't be able to, but I just don't want to wait and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

So do you think they are really going to look at each return separately and then issue the check or send everyone the same amount? We have several of the trains and the smelting yard so it's going to be heavy. It seems to me that when I've heard of other recalls you just returned them to the store. Am I correct in thinking this or am I just being a whiner because of the inconvenience?

My son's third birthday was on the 13th (when recall was announced). He had been asking for Lights and Sounds James for months. Anyway, I got it for him and gave it to him that morning, and he was sooooo excited. He played with it all day. That night I had to take it away for the lead poisioning!!!!! Try explaining that to a 3 yr old!!!!!! Sad:sad2:

Anyway, I called the phone # for two days with a busy signal. I finally got through and they took my email address (to send link to the recall form) and said to send them back and the shipping would be reimbursed. We had 13 of the pieces. It is supposed to take 6-8 weeks to receive the replacements!!!!!!!

Does anyone thing it would be enough to have lead poisioning? I know my son has put them in his mouth. My MIL seems to think I should have him tested. Apparently, lead poisioning in children causes hyperactivity, and my son is very much that!!!!!:confused3

I just heard of this yesterday, and have one - James - on the list. Are they dangerous to touch, or only if they put them in their mouth? (DS is 6, so he is long past that stage.)

Most of our trains are from 2001- are they safe/ We do have lights and sound james and a birthday car that is from this year. have to check the site- yesterday it was down.

We have so many of the pieces on the recall list, DH said if it was a bingo card we'd just about have the whole thing covered. :rotfl:

It's bad enough to have to take away the 3yr old's toys for a month or more, but some of them have been discontinued. Are they replacing them with something we already have? He loves the ice cream factory. Are they making new ones without the lead paint? I doubt it.

I think it's ridiculous that I have to put money up to send those expensive toxic toys back to them and wait to get reimbursed. I'm going to call them and ask for a pre-paid label. I'll let you know if I have any luck.
