ot: Anyone have emerald club for National car rental question

Hi,

I have emerald club and I just reserved a compact car and did not know whether I could choose any car in the emeral isle? Could I do that even though I reserved a compact or do I need to reserve a midsize car to take advantage of emerald isle?

You have to reserve an Intermediate to take advantage of the Emerald Aisle.

It's worth the extra money if you are hoping for a larger vehicle. Last year, we were able to get an Acadia. They also had minivans on the Emerald Aisle. There were cars also, but we wanted an SUV. It was so quick...hop off the bus, pick a vehicle & go!

Doesn't the reservation also have to be an Emerald Club reservation - i.e. made thru that particular website? Can you reserve an intermediate thru the "normal" National channels and use EI?

No, you have to be an Emerald Club member and make an Emerald reservation of an Intermediate size to be able to pick from the Emerald Aisle.

If you NEED a minivan or something else bigger, then my advice is to book that size and not count on what might be in the Emerald Aisle as it's not guaranteed to have anything bigger than an Intermediate so you are taking a chance when booking the Emerald Aisle when you want something big.

It is fun though to see what you might get there!

So If I have booked a minivan and am an Emerald club member- can I go check out what is on the Aisle first to see if there is anything better or do I have to go straight to the minivan aisle.?

I believe if you booked anything higher than an Intermediate then you can check out the Aisle but I would ask the attendant there first as those cars in the Aisle are really for those who are guaranteed/booked an Intermediate car.

Remember National sells EA membership as a perk for business travelers. We don't WANT a mini van and I will go complain if National tries to stick me with one... so don't count on one.

I'm emerald club and would not ever rent from any other company because of emerald isle perks. I have found there is always a great selection at mco regaurds of what I reserve.

I felt the same way until a week ago, when I had to make an emergency trip to Ohio. Made an EI reservation for Sunday -Wednesday it came to $290 . Did a quick check and Hertz (not typically known to be a low cost alternative) was $148 with an AAA code. BIG DIFFERENCE! Doubt I'll rent from EI again without at least checking a few other options unless I"m doing a weekend trip.
