OT: Any Battlestar Galactica fans?

I, too, think that they will find out that ALL "humans" are a type of Cylon. I feel like the push of this season, with Tigh, Chief, and Caprica 6, has been that, in some sense, it becomes irrelevant who's a Cylon and who's not. What matters is their relationships and how they feel about each other. Tigh hinted to that in his conversations with Ellen.

I fought this show for SO long. I hate Stargate, Star Trek, all those other sci fi shows but DH kept saying "Come on...you will like it...you will like it...." He's jealous of me, though because I got to watch them on DVD. He had to wait up to 18 months in between seasons (like the cliffhanger where Adama got shot.....that was a tough one for him).

Anyone else watch Firefly? That's another one that ended all too soon.....

BSG isn't what I would call true science fiction in the spirit of Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. It's a great drama that just happens to take place in space. That's the beauty of it. It doesn't rely on gimmicks or aliens. It has great writing.

I watched the pilot episode of Firefly and thought it was pretty good, one day I'll watch the rest on Hulu, i've heard its really good.

My cousin was the same way when I watched BSG! He made me watch the miniseries and than I watched every other episode back to back until I caught up. It took about 2 weeks and he was so mad saying how he had to wait so long for resolutions to season finales!!

I love the cylon version of all along the watchtower, great for working out! Anyone listen to the podcast?

I am not sure how Ron Moore does it but there aren't any spoilers out yet for a show that was filmed last summer. Amazing

I found a theory on one BSG site. It does sound plausible but I do not think it will happen. With that said, I will quote it below. Don't read if you don't want to...

I have read a theory that I think might scare me if it is true. Let me copy it below:

Two words: time travel.

There's just no other reason to introduce a black hole/naked singularity/what have you in a science fiction series at this point. And no reason to wait so long to introduce its existence, either. If they'd been saying "all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again" alongside the constant presence of a black hole all season, we'd have seen this coming a mile away, but without the black hole it's easy to take the phrase as being more metaphorical.

The basic idea is that, at some point while battling The Colony, they jump into the black hole/singularity, and go back in time. Possibly to Earth...but probably to Kobol. On Kobol, they find themselves reenacting the events in the Book of Pythia; they become the Gods of their own legends, and start the cycle anew. For example; Athena is named after one of the Lords of Kobol. The Athena of old killed herself in despair by jumping from twin mountains named the "Gates of Hera." I say she reenacts this in some form after losing Hera in the Opera House.

The idea that they become their own ancestors explains a lot. Most prominently, it explains why there's a "Temple of Five" that seems to predate the Final Five. That aspect of the timeline here has never made sense, logistically, but this makes sense of it.

It also explains how the 13th Tribe could have been made up of Cylons. Perhaps they all settle on Kobol, but not in perfect harmony; we still have Cylons like Tory who believe in the idea of a "pure" Cylon-only society. So, they keep to themselves a bit, break off from the rest of the "mixed" tribes, and next thing you know they're heading to Earth (which, in the past, hasn't been nuked yet), and round and round we go.

It also ties the show's themes of techology and mysticism together: the Lords of Kobol were real people, but they weren't actually Gods. The myth has been idealized and morphed over time, but was based in real events, which they themselves are about to engage in.

There are lots of smaller details that make a lot more sense when viewed in this light, but this covers the big stuff. I realize this show has made fools of all of us, but the more I think about this, the more elegant it seems. I'm convinced that this has to be it.

Another reason this fits...

...Ron Moore, IE: the BSG showrunner guy...wrote a number of episodes for Star Trek: The Next Generation. Among his credits is the series finale, in which Captain Picard (spoilers within spoilers coming up!)...solves a problem in three different periods of time simultaneously. It all turns out to have been a test for humanity administered by a near-ominpotent race of beings (the Q Continuum), which they pass.

So, not only does this make sense of a lot of the dangling plot threads, but this wouldn't even be the first time Moore has used time travel in a sci-fi series finale.

I wanted to add that I love this show, too, and am so sad to see it go. I am not a fan of sci-fi at all. I've never watched any Star Trek movies or tv shows and I actually fell asleep trying to get through Star Wars, but this show is just so good. It took me a few episodes to get into it and watching the beginning mini-series almost did me in, but I'm so glad that I got into it! It is so well written. It annoys me that good shows like this go off the air and so much drek remains on tv.

I had to skip over the last few posts on this thread, because I don't want to read any spoilers or even get a hint of what might happen. Of course, I have my own theories as to what is going on, but I want to be completely surprised on Friday. I have no idea how they are going to wrap this up in such a short amount of time!!!

That theory that was posted above coincides with my personal idea that the black hole is really a portal, and this all has to do with some sort of time issue. This would explain Starbuck seeing her own body. It will still blow me away how they explain it, and the girly girl in me wants to see love and happiness for Lee/Kara -- i've given up hope on Adama/Roslin. She needs to eat a cylon baby and survive otherwise i'm pretty sure she's gonna die lol

:rotfl2:

My only fear about that theory is that time travel is such a crutch for Sci Fi shows. It seems to be used in everything.

SPOILER LINE DO NOT CROSS

Okay after hours following the epic finale, I'm finally "over" starbuck and getting it. Anyone else feel completely "***??" over that character resolution like me? I was watching it with 4 others who had rose colored glasses on and were playing it off like "how else can they resolve it?" and I just felt, after 6 years of relationship building with Apollo (what was the point of the flashback and recent i love yous if not to end up together) and character development, just to have her go "okay, cya bye" *poof* wasn't enough for me, I felt a little gipped on that. Maybe i'm not so over it, but after realizing something i'm dealing with it a little better. (Lets put it this way, after watching the finale and a little bit of drinking, at 3am I was still going "great finale, effing starbuck!" every 10 minutes or so, no lie lol. BUT I like how its semi open ended, and leaves room for theorizing, so here goes my theory: The starbuck that I knew and love since the miniseries up until the season 3 where she dies, really did die. This almighty being used a vision of her (similar to Head Baltar & Head Six) to further along the process of discovering humans. Season 4 to present day has been this angel/vision. Anders "See you on the other side" kind of gives away the fact that in the scene with Lee, she literally is finished, and therefore goes to the other side to be with Sam. She couldn't stay because in fact she really was dead. If I think about it this way, it makes the seemingly crappy resolution meaningful and alright, but the sappy girl in me wished for a happy ending where she stayed on earth and had a life with apollo. This is my ONE gripe of the entire show!

Except for that, AMAZING!! My favorite scene of the entire series was the jump coordinates scene. Such cinematic PERFECTION!! I was literally on the edge of my seat, heart pounding, going "omg omg omg" we all agreed that scene was great. LOVED the "red stripes" again, heart pounding, great ending. I couldn't picture a better send off for Roslin. It was really sad and made me cry :rotfl: but there was nothing they could have done that wouldn't have made me sad. I thought for sure Adama and Roslin would have stayed behind on the galactica into the sun, but I liked that he stayed behind to fulfill his "wifes" dream :lovestruc

Okay this ended up being a lot longer than I expected, if anyone is stillr eading this  I'd love to hear some thoughts.

It was amazing to me. I loved it. Starbuck was dead but sent back to finish her msision. While getting with Apollo would have been nice, I thought the ending was true to what we were led to believe.

Agreed, Just sad that my favorite character died haha

Interesting that it turned out so OPPOSITE of what a lot of people expected: i.e. NOT a complete bloodbath. And I'm really glad Helo didn't die.

I agree the jump coordinate scene was good....you hear Starbuck say "I don't know the coordinates!" I yelled out from the couch "YES YOU DO!!!" Saw that coming.... ;-)

My wife would never watch it for years. Recently she has caught a few episodes of the last season and began to enjoy it. So now, we have started all over. She just saw the finale of Season 1 and almost lost it. haha I am enjoying watching it again almost as much as I am enjoying telling her "I TOLD YOU SO" in regards to her liking the show.

I'm sorry to say that I'm very disappointed in the finale. Great acting and production values, but, the story line sucked.

I'm underwhelmed that the whole point of all the struggles and suffering is to deliver Hera (and her mixed DNA) to Earth.

It also seems completely out of character for Bill Adama and Galen Tyrol to abandon the rest of the human/cylon community. Yes, they've both suffered losses. But, no more than so than anyone else.

Then there's Cavil. No one that angry and bitter would commit suicide. He'd take as many with him as possible. Think Khan in Star Trek II.

And finally, forget about Asimo and his decendants. The colony is still out there. The cylons may not have resurection, but they're still holding a massive grudge. Tell me they couldn't find Earth in 150,000 years.
