OT - Ages for Calico Critters?

My daughter is 5 1/2 and asked for Calico Critters for Christmas. Since these play sets are on the pricey side, I was concerned as to whether or not she will enjoy playing with these sets much beyond the next year or so. Does anyone have kids 5+ that still enjoy playing with their Calico Critters? Thanks!

I want to say that we got these for my daughter when she had just turned 6 for Christmas--the whole deal. The cottage, the room furniture, families, etc. She asked for them from Santa and her grandmother. She loved it for a little while--maybe a few months. And that's it. The Calico Critter toys are incredibly cute and lots of little pieces and detail, but she just didn't warm up to it. I want to add, too, that my daughter was, and still is, completely into dolls. She loves to play Barbies, Playmobil, American Girl--she just didn't take to the Critters. She's 8 years old now and I plan to get her dolls for Christmas. My advice would be to get a set or two of the Critters if it's on her list, but definitely don't go crazy. I could be wrong, but we learned the hard way!! Good luck!

Yes she will get a couple years of play still I bet. Calico Critters is targeted at 5-8 mostly. In fact, the pieces can be so tiny I wouldn't give to kids under 5. Just a warning, most of the houses come with nothing. You don't get everything on the front. No family, no decor, furniture. It's a bit misleading really but they are great toys and I'm sure she will enjoy

My dd just turned 9 and she plays with them a little, not as much as I though she would. She does want their RV that just came out. So, maybe just get the RV and car and not the house? Kids like things to drag around (even at age 9 ).
