OT-advice for bedwetting

First and foremost I concur with the other posters - definitely talk to your doctor. Sometimes there is a medical problem such as diabetes or recurring bladder infection (not all of them result in pain when peeing) - if the infection I recommend an ounce of prevention or 8 ounces of cranberry juice every day.

My middle DS was/is the bedwetter. We never got to the alarm stage so I can't speak to how they work. For him the problem is being a very deep sleeper. I linked the problems to his daytime activities. The more exciting/active the day the more likely he was to pee the bed, which helped me plan for the night - if I knew we were apt to have a pee accident I would put down a flannel coated rubber sheet. This helps repel the water from the mattress while the flannel absorbs the flow so it doesn't run over the sides - this washes easily. Mostly now he gets up but he will stagger all over the house and sometimes pee his pants before he finds the bathroom because he hasn't woken up all the way. One time he made it all the way into the basement before the noise of him stumbling around woke me up and I directed him to the bathroom. Once he got up to pee after he'd gone to bed and when we went to bed we found him asleep on the toilet. What works most for us is limiting the quantity of fluid just before bedtime making sure he goes to the bathroom right before he falls asleep (he's very good about doing this himself now) and if we know he's had a lot to drink that day we get him up right before we go to bed.

Good Luck!

My oldest DS wet the bed every single night for over seven years. He wanted to go camping without worrying about wetting his sleeping bag. I wanted to quit buying Goodnights. So I finally bought the Malem Ultimate alarm from the bedwettingstore.com and it was some of the best money I ever spent. Within two weeks he was staying dry consistently. I only wish we had bought it earlier.

I let DS choose which color he wanted. The alarm we bought had varying sounds and vibrated. At first he attached the alarm to his underpants, and then wore a Goodnight on top so when it went off at night he just had to change his underpants, instead of putting new bedding on the bed. I also offered to sleep in his room the first night in case the alarm freaked him out, but it wasn't a problem.

YMMV, but I can't say enough good things about our experience with the alarm.

A couple of other people mentioned www.bedwettingstore.com

I wanted to mention that they sell all sorts of things to assist with bedwetting, but they also have a lot of good information pages that are worth a look.

I have spoken with our family doctor. Due to DS9 past experience with medical tests (the entire summer of '07, he was very ill and went through a lot of tests. He handled it well, but just freaks out if he feels himself gettting sick b/c he thinks he will need more tests) he is suggesting a product similar to the potty pager, so I will be ordering one in the next few days after I research my options. I am also looking into the constipation angle.

I'll keep you updated with out progress. Thanks for all of you suggestions and encouragement!!
