We have been invitied to a bday party for a 2yr old. Our DD is only 11mo and this is the first one! I am looking for ideas of what to get the birthday girl. She has an old sister and between the 2 of them, they have every toy you could imagine! Should I get a gift card for somewhere, or something else? How much would you spend? $25, $50?

If they've got everything for toys, then I have two suggestions.

First, consumables. Paint, paper, stickers, paint brushes, no-tip paint cups, all those art supplies that kids go through so fast.

Second, museum or attraction tickets. Is there a local children's museum or aquarium? Places to go and maybe a disposable camera would be great.

As a fellow Long Islander, I would say the average cost of a kids birthday gift for a party (a friend not relative) is $20. Now that my boys are getting older, just had an 8 year old party, they seem to be spending a little more. He received mostly gift cards...$20 and $25 each. You can't go wrong spending $20.

Hey!! My little one just turned 2 and she LOVES her bath crayons....I know a user posted this just before me....but, I wanted to confirm my little girls love for those things. They also have the markers...they seem to be a little brighter. She also received a paint set.....she does love that too! The gift cards are nice......then the parents can decide what they think she needs as well.........

Good Luck!!

My son is turning two next month and he loves bath toys. He is also just geting into crayons and coloring books. They have crayons now specifically for kids around 2 which is great!

Do they have the Bubble Mower? I have a 2 year old and he loves his. I get it for all the 2 year old parties we go to!

Books, Savings Bonds, money w/ the request it go into a savings for them (we LOVE when my parents do this for the kids...we put money in all the time, but its nice to know others are also helping out w/ a college savings), craft supplies, maybe some clothes, dress up outfit (pretend), a movie or DVD of a cartoon they like, a learning game (like the Match Game).

I really liked getting books for my son's first birthday (I actually asked for them when people asked what would be good). I now have TONS of kids books for the kids because of it (everyone got a lot of books because it was cheaper than buying toys). My kids love going to pick out a diff book for bedtime reading every night.

Gaaad no! I do not want paint, markers, art supplies, play doh or anything of the like for my 2 year old. I still lament the state of my family room carpet! Book are great. Attraction tickets would be great. Any type of gift card would be appreciated.

Theme gifts are great A Bathing suit and a bag of beach toys or bath toys.

Or a beach bucket with bathing suit and hat. :cheer2:

Umbrella with rain boots. :thumbsup2

You could get the activity trays at Michaels Crafts, they are plastic with pockets on each side. They're great for the house, car or bed when kids are sick. You can personalize it. Put coloring books crayons in the sides and a book.

Bucket an cleaning supplies an she can help mom clean up all the messes she makes with the crayons an markers etc.

How about a new magna doodle those things tend to wear out rather quickly cause kids press to hard when they doodle yet it can't be used to mark on other things with to much an it stays in one piece is quiet an doesn't eat batteries like candy.

OT 1 year when my DD's was 2 an 3 yrs old my brother bought them each a plastic ball an bat for christmas dead of winter not much playin outside time. Soon the bats went bye bye never to be seen again (wonder why?)

Revenge was sweet tho the next Christmas brother was married to a woman with 4 kids 6 an under he also had full custody of his 6 yr old son. I was EVIL all 5 kids got drums, tamborines, whistles, horns an a spinnin thing that screamed made horrible noise when spun. I was so EVIL an spared my parents the noise of the gifts by telling brother that the kids gifts was in my car couldn't come in house that when he left I'd give them to him an they could open them when they got home.

Funny thing after that Christmas my brother started buying my DD's nice quiet safe gifts like story books

You can gift them something related to their study, any comics collections, painting brushes,colors:cool1:.If they are interested in playing and sports, gift them kid-motorbikes.

My son is about to turn 2 on the 27th and he loves pretend vacuum cleaners (and real ones too!). You can find them at Toys R Us for about $15.

If you all are anywhere near Bridgehampton the Children's Museum of the East End is GREAT! It's $7 pp admission, so a gift idea would be 4 tickets to get in. Or if you're a 'big spender' a family membership is $85.

As a mom of an almost 4 year old now I recall that ds's fave gifts at 2 were art supplies and bath toys. Both huge hits. :goodvibes

So I ended up getting a $20 barnes & nobles gift card, a set of the washable crayons for the tub and a Tinker Bell Ferries Glitter Pen set (it had a pad with 18pgs and 6 markers - all Mess Free). It was about $37 dollars total.
