Well, we've been back almost a week now. The wedding was magical. And the honeymoon at Disney was great. I finally decided to post a little something here, because I know me. I never managed to post a long PJ like a lot of people here, and the big trip report probably isn't happening either, though there were a lot of good things to tell about during the trip. But I wanted to post about at least one really cool thing that happened during the wedding, so I figured I would do that now. The best chance anyone has of reading a sort-of trip report is eventually, I am planning on trying to blog the whole trip on my website, and once I do that, I will post the website URL on here, and everyone can just go there to read it.

Also, none of the professional pictures are back yet. I wish they were.... because it goes with what I wanted to tell you all about.

So, it rained most of the week of our wedding. Our wedding day - rain, on and off. But that's ok. Misty (yes, we went with Misty for photography) said that overcast is actually better for pictures, that when it's sunny, it can actually interfere with getting good shots a lot of times. And the rain was mostly cooperative, and even ended up helping.

We started the day with the MKPS, and the rain held off all through that. The ground was a little damp here and there, but no big puddles or anything to get my dress all messed up for the ceremony later, so no problem.

We were having a 10:00 a.m. ceremony at the wedding pavillion. After having the MKPS the same day, there was no way we were waiting any later than the first possible slot for our ceremony! We had decided to try and do as much of the family photos as possible before the ceremony, and so we headed to the pavillion almost immediately after the MKPS. The weather still cooperated, and so did both families for the most part. Mine was only a little late, but nothing that held us up (and since it was only for the pictures and not for the ceremony, that was good. Knowing how my family is perennially late, another good plan on my part! :) )

During the ceremony, it poured! But, since we were all inside, no problem. It didn't start until after the ceremony started. And it let up just before the ceremony ended. We went back outside for a few more pictures, and everything was kind of wet, but it wasn't really a problem or anything. Then we all headed to the Grand Floridian to go the the Commander's Terrace for the cake and champagne reception.

That's where the rain really decided to help out, though this is going to sound a little strange at first. Just after almost all the guests and wedding party (with the exception of DH and I, the minister and his wife, and two guests - oh, and of course, Misty and her husband!) had headed over and were under cover, it started to sprinkle. DH and I were taking the limo over, and Misty and her husband were taking their van to move equipment. The wedding coordinator gave the rest a ride in a covered golf cart. Just as we got over there, it started to come down a little more, and that's when we found out (because I didn't know this before) that the Commander's Terrace is an outside venue, and because of that, we had been moved.

Well, I've never seen the Commander's Terrace before anyway, so I didn't really know what we weren't getting, so when they told us we were being moved, it didn't matter to me. If they hadn't told us we were being moved, I probably wouldn't have known the difference! The rest of the guests would have, because they had been directed to one location, then turned and marched to a new one, but we were taken directly to our final destination.

And that turned out to be... a sectioned off room of Citricos. Now I have never been to Citricos when it is opened before either. We went to a lot of different restaurants while we were there, but we didn't make it to Citricos. So I can't tell you for sure exactly where we were. But if I had to guess, I believe what they had done is just section off the very front of the restaurant, because there was a hexagonal stand in the middle of the room we were in that I would guess is the reservation/host desk for the restaurant. At any rate, there were windows all around 2 sides of the room, and the view was beautiful. The tables and chairs were also beautiful, and everything was laid out very nicely, especially considering they had to move it all very quickly. And the setting was perfect for having a roaming violinist playing - it all just fit.

We did our cake cutting (though we didn't actually serve the cake, as we were having a lunch reception shortly after, and were serving the cake after the lunch), and fed each other cake. No, we didn't smash it either. We then did our first dance to "Unchained Melody".

We had provided music for both the father/daughter and mother/son dance, and we did those next. I danced with my dad to "Peg 'O My Heart", which is an old Irish love song. I had trouble figuring out a song to do. The first one that came to mind was "Daddy's Little Girl", because when my mom was pregnant with me, my aunt was sure I was going to be a girl, and bought my dad a copy of that song on a record. And when I was little, he used to play it and sing it to me a lot. But with "Peg 'O My Heart"... well, dad's part Irish, and the Irish part of the family isn't that far back. He really likes Irish music, and he loves that song. He used to play it for us on the harmonica when I was young, and I ended up learning it on the piano for him, and would play it for him sometimes. While we were dancing, I told him I had trouble deciding what song to do for our dance, but decided it had to be "Peg", because I knew he loved it, and because I had learned to play it for him on the piano, and he said yeah, and I played it on the harmonica for you. Then he said, well, you could have done that one that your aunt bought that record of for me.... :goodvibes I told him I'd thought about that one too, but I knew how much he loved this one.

My sister said I made our mom cry.

DF ended up dancing with his mom to "I Hope You Dance". Unfortunately, no story there. Just that his mom loves country music, and we wanted to find a song that would be appropriate (even if the words weren't going to be sung while they were dancing) that she would know. He really liked that one, and I assured him that since she listens to country, even though she prefers the older stuff, she would know that song.

And then came what I really came on here to tell you all about. See, we didn't opt for having any of the characters come to our reception. It just wasn't in our budget. It seemed way too expensive for way too short a time, especially since we really only had one young child in the whole group, and while pictures in our wedding clothes with the characters would be kind of neat, it wasn't worth the extra money to us.

But Surprise! pixiedust: princess: I'm guessing where we were is also used during that time of day as a way for the characters from whatever character dining experience is going on (1900 Park Faire?) to exit and go back stage. Because the next thing you know, Sleeping Beauty came strolling through. At first, she and the person with her seemed just as surprised to find us there as we were to see her. But they stopped and congratulated us, asked if we wanted pictures and the whole bit. She stayed for about 10 minutes or so, I would say. :dance3: :dance3: :woohoo:

So, you won't find ME complaining about rain on my wedding day! I'd say we DEFINITELY got a bit of Disney magic there. Especially since I know they really didn't have to stop - I'm sure she was just getting done with her shift in costume after making the rounds at a character meal. So stopping at our reception was especially nice of her and the staff helping her.

Whew! Well, there's a lot more I could tell about the day, but that was the biggest news. I really should get going for now. I'll try later to add a little bit about trekking round the world for photos - all this before we've had ANYTHING to eat for the day (well, with the exception of about 3 bites of cake apiece for DF and myself.) We had planned in food....but our MKPS took longer than it was supposed to, and by the time we got back to our room at Shades of Green, we only had time to get the last of our stuff together (fortunately, DH had already packed up and gotten his stuff out, we had only taken in what we needed for 2 nights, and my mom, sis, and niece had gathered and packed almost everything for me while we were at the MKPS), get the bellman to take it out to the truck (which my sis was moving for us), grab the stuff going to the wedding pavillion, and go! We took the food to the wedding pavillion with us, ever hopeful, but alas, we STILL never got a chance to get a bite of it.

At least it did help feed my mom, sis, and niece while we were at the MKPS though.

Sounds great, we are going with misty so will be very interested in your pics when you post them

Congratulations! How fantastic that you got pics with Princess Aurora on your wedding day! I'm soooo hoping that you're going to let us see your photos when they're available - please? :flower3:

Oh yes, of course. One way or another. I know Misty puts them up for a while, so I can give access to that once they are up there, and after that, I will probably be putting them on my website - or at least some of them. I can guarantee that at least a shot or two of Aurora will be there.

I'm hoping my pictures will be kind of unique anyway. One of the things I wanted with having my wedding at Disney is that my pictures really be Disney pictures. While we were at the Grand Floridian later in the week, I saw another wedding party there having pictures done. I'm sure they'll turn out beautiful, and everyone has their own tastes, so that's great if it's what you want, but all I could think for the shots she was getting was that... well, to me, they were shots she could have gotten at any nice wedding venue. Shots on the staircase, shots in front of the mirror, shots of her laying across the piano. Beautiful. But they just didn't say "Disney" to me.

So, for me... I had the family shots, I had shots during the ceremony, I had shots in around around the wedding pavillion.... those were traditional enough. And even then, at least some of them will get some of the Disney magic in the background. But some will be normal-looking, traditional photos that could have been taken anywhere.

So, between the cake and champagne reception which was over at around 11:30 and the lunch reception which started at 2:00, we did the "great wedding photo tour of '07". We had the limo take us from the Grand Floridian over to Epcot. We got some shots outside of Epcot, with the "big ball" in the background, and with the monorail in the background. We then took the monorail over to the TTC. We got a few shots there as we caught the ferry over to the Magic Kingdom. We got a lot of nice shots on the ferry on the way over, and then took pictures outside the MK. Once we got done there, we took the monorail back over to the Polynesian. We got a few shots inside, including with a Lassen dolphin sculpture that was in the lobby, and then moved outside and took photos in various locations. By then we were starting to lose steam though. We took the boat from there back to the MK in order to catch the boat from there to the WL where lunch was being held at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.

We got a few more shots here and there at WL, but not a lot, as we were running a little late for lunch by then, and STARVING!!!!! Once we got in for lunch Misty took a few more at the table of the start of lunch too. We had invited Misty and her husband to join us for lunch, so until lunch really got going, she just snapped a few more here and there.

Like I said, everyone has their own ideas of what they want their wedding photos to look like. I just wanted it to look "Disney", which, to me, says the Disney icon stuff in the background. I'm sure DH is glad we didn't have more time, because I would have dragged us to get shots outside MGM and Animal Kingdom too. Even if you can't go in the parks, there is some theming outside the parks that gives some nice backgrounds, and some of the places we went gave some really nice scenic vantage points. For example, when we went to get on the monorail from Epcot to the TTC, there was a place where we were standing that gave a great view of the castle in the background, with really nothing else around it.

We'll see how it turns out. I had kind of a vision, and I'm kind of trusting Misty to get the shots to make it all turn out. It's an experiment, as I don't think I've really seen anyone else do that kind of thing - at least, I haven't noticed that anyone else has. Either it will work or it won't. We had enough time that if it doesn't work out well, we'll still have all the good shots with family, from the ceremony, from the cake and champagne reception, and even quite a few of just the two of us at the pavillion area before the family got there.

Oh, and until the professional shots get done, I'm starting to put up a few things on my personal site. For now, it's just a few shots from my camera - plus our engagment pictures and stuff are there too. So, if anyone's interested.....

Now, on to my review and feelings about the pictures.

Overall, am I happy we did the pictures? Absolutely. I think there are some very beautiful shots there, and I think I would be disappointed not to have the castle shots.

Having said that, I can say a couple of other things. That being said, I can say I am EXTREMELY glad we decided to pay for an outside photographer instead of depending on getting our photos from the included Disney package.

Let me start by talking a little about how our photo shoot went. I had reservations about it during the whole thing. I had a feeling we weren't going to get the "WOW" package I had hoped for. Ok. That happens. The thing is, when you pay as much for a one hour photo session as you do for the MKPS, REGARDLESS of WHERE you are getting the pictures, you should ALWAYS be getting a "WOW" package. I really do think Disney should be recognizing that and putting only their best photographers on those sessions. And really, same with the all the wedding photography. That's just too important of a day to have messed up.

Part of it... well, our photographer was NOT having a good morning. He was sick... I think he mentioned an ulcer. DH and I weren't completely sure if it was completely that, or if he'd had a bit too much of a late night the night before, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Even so, if he wasn't well enough to do his best, maybe they could have tried to get another photographer? Still, as I said, he really didn't do a BAD job, just not a great one either.

And I don't remember his name off the top of my head right now. I'm not sure, but we may have gotten one that someone else had before. He was pretty defensive about the fact that we hired an outside photographer for the rest of the wedding. He automatically assumed it was Randy, and seemed a little surprised when we said Misty, and actually calmed down a little at that. :confused3 He was still kind of confrontational about it, though, and kept wanting to know why we didn't feel the Disney package worked for us. We were honest with him - we told him that originally we had every intention of going with Disney, but that they weren't flexible enough with us about doing what we wanted. That the main thing we were interested in was getting everything digitally so we had the flexibility to do whatever we wanted with whatever pictures we wanted, and because I do web page stuff, and that we felt the price for the cd was too high on top of everything else, and that we had no interest in the album and prints that came with our package, and that photography wasn't willing to swap things around.

He answered that no, they didn't do that, but he didn't see any need for us having the digital rights, that they could print any size, shape, whatever we needed. (I hadn't brought up the web site stuff yet.) That's when we said we are doing a scrapbook rather than a traditional wedding album, and we want to be able to print what we want, when we want, not to have to wait for it. Plus, I then mentioned the web site stuff, and that I also put together movies using the photos, and plan to do that as well, which all require the digital. And that we were able to get 6 hours of photography with an outside photographer and keep all the digital images for only slightly more than purchasing the cd from Disney that would have had only our basic included wedding package with it. It wasn't worth it.

We also mentioned to him that when Rosey found out why we had gone to an outside photographer, she said she wished she had known, because they could have worked out something for us to have not gotten the album or prints and have gotten the cd instead. We told her we had asked about that, and that we were told absolutely not by both the photography department and by our coordinator. She said that sometimes the people you get don't know, but that she could have gotten it straightened out. But we didn't talk to her practically all of our plans for the wedding were already set. We told her that DFTW and photography should all work together, and everyone should be on the same page about what is possible so that people like us don't get the run-around. Because we did on several things like this. She agreed, and said she would put that in as a suggestion, and see if they couldn't get more communications across everyone on all the options. Whether they really will or not, who knows?

Anyway, with all that, he (IMO, grudgingly) agreed that we did end up going the best route for us, that we tried to go Disney and they didn't help us out. At that point he finally dropped it.

So, that leaves us with the pictures. As I said, I think they look pretty good overall. They just aren't as wonderful as I would have hoped. The ones in front of the castle are great, as far as they go. But I do know I have seen some of the photographers make sure the castle goes through the whole change of light while they are taking each shot, instead of just getting the same basic shot with the same lighting on the castle each time.

The carousel shots are ok, but I have seen much better. And all of them have shadows across our faces. Which brings up a question - these are supposedly the pictures that people can order, right? So that means these are the edited versions already, right? Does that mean they are already as cleaned up as they are going to be? Because I would think they should go in and clean up some of those shadows. Most professional photographers wouldn't have had them there in the first place. But these are digital photos, so they should be able to clean up some of those shadows at least, right?

And then there are the shots on the balcony. Those are the ones I am the most disappointed with. We did the shoot the morning of our wedding, so we climbed up those stairs, and I did end up getting my dress a little dirty. And for what? Three pictures? He hardly took any at all, and only one that really shows the castle in the background. And that one has a horrible angle, and you can barely see us at all. I can't imagine what he was thinking with these. And they weren't our last shots, it wasn't like we were leaving right after this. I was really looking forward to having a nice balcony shot or two, and they didn't come out at all. The best I could hope for is if maybe they focused in a little more on the one shot that does show the castle more so you can see us a little, but given the angle he used, I don't really know how well that would turn out. And again, I don't know if they are supposedly done with all the editing, or if I can get that done, or what.

Another reason I wanted the digital images myself. Then I could fix things at least. But we aren't going to pay $750 just to get the digital of these after paying $800 just to get the pictures in the first place! It will have to wait three years. Even then, I'm REALLY unhappy that the price has gone up for the cd from $99 to $250. I'm still not sure if we'll buy it now. We may just scan the pictures we get and do the best we can.

So, I have mixed feelings about the MKPS. Certainly not the overjoyed WOW feeling I was hoping for. I'm happy I have the pictures, but I'm definitely NOT happy at the level of service and the quality we received for $800.

I guess the next thing to do is contact our planner/the head of photography/Rosey and let them know our feelings about this. It isn't like we can do the shoot over. But it seems like there ought to be something they can do to at least fix some of it.

Im sorry you didnt get a "wow" from your bridal portraits at the MK. However you look so beautiful! Congratulations! :dance3:

i'm sorry that you had a not so positive experience w/dps...i find it interesting that your photographer got defensive about you using misty...i'm using randy, for the exact reasons that you went outside...

YOUR DRESS IS GORGEOUS, very different with the blue, i LOVE it!!!

I'm sorry that you didn't have a good experience with DPS... I'm with you on the whole wedding pictures are too important to mess up thing and they should really be careful on who they put where to do what. I'm going with Randy for the same reasons you went with Misty, and I'm curious to see how my MK photo shoot goes! :)

But, you looked beautiful in your dress AND your pictures are breathtaking! :) Congratulations on your marriage, and you really were a beautiful :bride:

Thanks, everyone. I have to say, I'm not exactly disappointed with the pictures. I think they turned out reasonably well. They are beautiful, and they are what I wanted - I got my "princessy" pictures with the castle.

But... I wasn't overwhelmed by the pictures either. I guess for $800 for only an hour's worth of photography, I expected them to be incredible, and what I got was nice. Beautiful, but not awe-inspiring, you know?

Let's put it this way... I think everyone will really like the pictures - everyone says we look great, I look beautiful, my dress looks beautiful, the settings are georgeous.... but I haven't heard, and don't expect to hear, anyone asking who the photographer was, or wanting desperately to have him do their photos. When you pay $800 for an hour of photography, you don't expect to see shadows on faces and really bad angles.

To tell the truth, even him getting defensive like that didn't really bother me that much. His issue, not mine. We just went ahead and explained the whole rationale - we figure that the more people that get the message that Disney's pricing and offerings are not only not competitive, but not even CLOSE, the better. I expect the prices are going to be somewhat more expensive - it's Disney. But when the prices are outrageously more, and we get an inferior product, they have a problem and they need to know it.

As I said, I do plan to contact everyone soon about the pictures to see what can be done at least about the shadows and maybe getting a more close-up picture of the one balcony shot. I don't necessarily want to get our photographer in trouble, but maybe he just isn't experienced enough for this particular shoot or something.
