Hey all. I just looked up Oswald The Lucky Rabbit on wikipedia and saw something about him appearing at Walt Disney World and Disneyland back when they brought him back to Disney. I know Wikipedia is not the most reliable source ever, but I'm just wondering if this is true. Has anyone seen him yet? Does anyone have any videos or pictures of him at the parks?

I have not seen him, but that would be interesting to meet/see Oswald in the parks. Talk about vindication for Walt. His own, original character in HIS original park.

I've never seen him either, nor have I seen anyone who took pictures of him in the park...

A couple months ago the Disney Store in our mall had a bunch of his stuff.... But I'm sure that doesn't help you..

I cannot say that I recognize this character. What is he like? TIA :)

If they strive to accurate to Oswald's appearance, he'll be all black and white. In a nutshell, think Steamboat Willie era Mickey with as a rabbit complete with long black rabbit ears.

For those who don't know, Walt Disney created Oswald and lost the rights to him in a battle with the company that distributed Oswald cartoons. On the train ride back to California from New York immediately following the loss of Oswald, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created Mickey Mouse whose fame soon eclipsed that of the very popular Oswald.

After a couple more years and some more cartoons, Oswald quietly faded away, known only to animation/Disney fans until the Walt Disney Company traded the rights to sportscaster Al Michaels to NBC/Universal(who owned the rights to Oswald) for the rights to Oswald when NBC won the rights to Sunday Night Football. NBC wanted to continue pairing Michaels with John Madden whose contract expired when the TV deal with the NFL was up.

Now that I realize it, the OPs avatar is of Oswald.

Interesting, also interesting to see how one can loose the rights to their own work. That is just not right. Thank you for the information. The little avatar does look like Mickey Mouse, only of course is the wabbit. :)

When you design things for someone else, that is the price you can pay.

All Disney cast members have a clause in their contracts that any personal ideas and concepts that they develop while on the clock belong to Disney. This is a direct result of what happened with Oswald, and ironically, a somewhat similar thing to what RKO did to Walt.

Oh, I know and I do not like that. I suppose the moral of the story is, do not think of anything different or creative while on the clock, seriously.

I prefer to think of it as "A company pays me to work for them and that is what I am supposed to do on their time. I can do things for me on my time and keep personal ideas to myself until that point." In all honesty, you can get fired from any company for not doing your work or even "stealing time from the company", while you are on the clock.

Besides, I would prefer that the folks, who work for Disney, come up with their best and most creative ideas while on the clock. That way they become reality - to quote the Sherman Brothers - and "that's a Dream come true, for you and me"!

I was thinking, with the retheming of Sunshine Plaza, and since Oswald and other characters that you don't see walking around often (Clarabelle and Horace) are going to have shops open up in their name (if the project goes as planned), you think maybe Disney might have them walk around DCA after the revamp?

Have never seen him but that would be interesting. Wonder why they dont at least have some merchandise of him?

They have 1 thing of merch w/ Oswald and it's his cartoons on dvd. It even comes w/ a free button of him inside the case!
