For once, I felt that watching was worth the 3 1/2 hours! (of course, I was fixing dinner at the beginning, but saw most of Billy's opening)
The middle of the show kinda dragged, but we enjoyed the musical numbers. We liked the Jack Black/Will Ferrell song - what a hoot!!
LOTR/ROTK won all 11 of their nominated categories!
thanks for the update. I'm thrilled for Sean Penn, but oh, that scene in Mystic River at the beginning when he's trying to break through the police barricade in the park almost did me in. Did you see it?
I can't stand it when an Oscar winner (Sean Penn tonight) feels the need to make some kind of political statement (always liberal) when accepting their award. Just say thank you already!!!
An inappropriate forum IMHO and it makes me dislike the actor/actress.
We went to see Mystic River last night. Sean Penn was great, as usual. I wish he'd won a few years back for Dead Man Walking. I don't think any movie has ever stuck with me like that one. You should have seen Bill Murray's face though. Poor guy.
I was happy to see Sofia Coppola win screenplay and Johnny Depp should have won! But I'm happy that LOTR finally got its due.The musical numbers were great and I loved the song from Triplets of Bellville and the Black/Ferrell number
Don't worry. Someday Johnny Depp will win for something. He is one of the most versatile leading men out there. Who else could be play a guy with scissors for hands and an undercover cop/gangster so convincingly? Isn't he going to play Willy Wonka in the Burton remake?
This is the first year I've watched in a long time, and I *loved* the beginning. Especially the "apologies to Julie Andrews" followed by the Hobbits song based on "Favorite Things". That was hillarious!
I was so glad to see LOTR sweep their categories -- they've had this night coming for 3 years! Though, as much as I loved LOTR, I actually think the best song should have gone to one of the Cold Mountain songs.
And my friend laughed at me when I said if Finding Nemo doesn't get the best Animated Picture, something's wrong.
(I also hate it when they use the Oscars as a chance to make their political statements. )
Overall disappointing Oscars, although predictable as usual. I felt very sorry for Bill Murray; You could really see it in his face that he was disappointed. I also have negative feelings about "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" sweeping up a majority of the Oscars. It seems typical that some big-budget, bloated, effects ladden, "Hollywood" film ends up sweeping the Oscars nearly every year.
chad, hopefully Jim Carrey shaved his head for a movie role. He did look a bit odd.
The show was pretty good IMO. Good musical numbers and lots of big stars in attendance. It's good to see the best picture of the year by far get its due too. It would have been nice to see a surprise or two though because the award winners were almost too predictable.
I was glad to see Andrew Stanton win for Finding Nemo,he
grew up right down the street from me and was a good kid.
I love to see people from my small home town go onto fame.
It helps to prove to my kids that you can grow up in a little
town and who knows where you may go from here.
I saw a preview for the next movie Jim Carrey is doing ... can't remember what it is, but he plays this old scary guy who is bald about halfway back, then has long, gray, scraggly, sticking out all over hair on the back half of his head.
I never thought this guy was a pretty picture, but I thought he looked better in the Grinch than he does in this one!
