Anyone up for an Oscar blog this evening?

Talk about the winners, the losers, Chris Rock's jokes, the fashion (for you ladies) - right as you're watching.

If you're up for it, feel free to post throughout the day and during the show.

Hopefully, we'll all be talking later this evening.

For starters: Anything you're looking forward to seeing win?

I, for one, am hoping for Natalie Portman to win for Supporting Actress. Loved her in Closer (and she was super in Garden State, too). Can she beat Cate Blanchett (who I really like as well)? We'll see.

Can I give a completely biased, pre-show opinion? I'm gonna anyways.....

If Martin Scorsese doesn't win best director, I will throw a kleenex at my television.(I don't want to break it, you know)

Here is a man who gave us Raging Bull(DeNiro's best performance), Taxi Driver(disturbing and compelling at the same time), and GoodFellas(changed the attitude of every boy I knew growing up, and still those today. Everyone was Italian!)

This is a man who has influenced almost every new director today. It is his time and so overdue.

Okay, rant over!! :rotfl:

I can't wait to see Chris Rock shake up the industry. My must win is Morgan Freeman, I mean he is an absolutely amazing actor. I'll throw my tissue at the screen if he doesn't win! Gotta take a nap so I can stay up as late as possible.

I know he doesn't stand a chance as Jamie Foxx is apparently a slam dunk win, but I am pulling for Don Cheadle. He is just such an amazing actor. It just seems that it's the wrong year to be nominated for best actor.

We're getting closer to red carpet time!

Random Oscar Comment:

So, this year they're doing things a little differently. For certain "lesser" awards, they will either have all the nominees on the stage and then have the winner come forward and accept the award; or they will have all the nominees for a certain award seated together and they will "deliver" the award to them.

Now, I realize that the show is long as it is (and if you ask me, in order to shorten it, they should just cut out Chris Rock's monologue - ooh, I really don't like him), but to not even let these people speak just seems wrong. Some people (like the guys that did the sound for Spiderman 2) have been nominated over 15 times and have never won. It just doesn't seem right for them not to be able to speak (if theirs is an award in which this occurs).

Yeah, I know these awards shows aren't for everyone (see the post "Does anyone hate the Oscars" on these very boards), but for movie buffs, I just don't think this seems right.

Am I crazy? Anyone agree?

I don't really know what a "blog" is, but...... anyone care for a cookie? :teeth:

A blog is essentially an online diary, usually done by one person, sometimes pertaining to a specific topic like politics or entertainment.

Obviously, here on the DIS, this blog is just random thoughts by everyone on the ongoing Oscar show. Kind of an up-to-the-minute journal by everyone.

And, yes, I'll have a cookie. Chocolate Chip, please. ;)

edited to add: I didn't even realize that the cookies were the best actor Oscar nominees. Pretty cool.

Yep..... I just thought these cookies would be an appropriate snack to eat during the Academy Awards tonight. :teeth:

I will be watching. I usually have to work the morning after the awards so I don't stay up for the entire show, but I should be able to tonight. :)

Right off the bat, Barbara Walters' special is actually not half bad this year.

Will Ferrell - I know some hate him, but I think he's hilarious
Teri Hatcher - well, she's incredibly attractive and funny.
Jamie Foxx - He can really sing.

More later....

I wasn't overly impressed with Chris Rocks opening monologue. Guess I have been too spoiled by Billy Crystal for far too long.

Just saw Morgan Freeman win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. I am so happy for him, after being nominated 4 times before without a win He is a really classy actor.

I am really pulling for Hillary Swank and Jamie Foxx for best actress and actor Oscars and Natalie Portman for best Supporting Actress.

As for best Picture, I am pulling for Million Dollar Baby, but think that the Aviator will get it.

I would be happy if either Scorsese or Clint Eastwood won for best director.

I agree with the "yeah!" to the Incredibles.

A little disappointed that Natalie Portman lost. Oh, well.

Hate how they're having the nominees stand on the stage and that they're doing some of the awards from the seats. However, it sure is keeping the show moving.

Chris Rock is actually ok. Opening monologue was kinda flat (and I hate Bush-bashing jokes), but the race relation jokes were kinda funny. Really loved the jokes at the Magic Johnson Theatre.

Really like the Counting Crows song from Shrek. So much better than that lousy French thing Beyonce sang.

Also, looks like Aviator's sweeping.

I though Chris Rock's bit at the Magic Johnson movie theatre was hysterical. The show wasn't even 4 hours. No surprises in the winners. Now I have to go order my Incredibles DVD!
