I head down to WDW next week and an excited to try night photography. I have found some good suggestions for the fireworks and MVMCP but I need help with the Osbourne Lights. Any ideas of what my settings should be? I will have a tripod but people have said that it may be to crowded to use a tripod. I will be using a nikon 5100 with the kit lenses which are f 3.5- 5.6. I will also have a canon g12 which goes down to around f2.8. Would I be better off using the g12 and lower f stop?

While it is busy there has never been an issue using a tripod. Just like anywhere else in life and the parks most people will be respectful and walk around, but inevitably there will be people who find you and your gear invisible.

DW and DD are great at helping to create a buffer between the tripod and others in the busy areas.

Not to hijack the thread, but I also have an Osborne Lights question. The last time I was at DHS with Osborne lights (2008), I did not have my tripod. With the tripod, I think my choices of lenses/exposure would be the 18-55 with a longer exposure (because of the variable aperture) (also wider) or the Sigma 30 (faster lens) with a shorter exposure. What's anyone's thoughts?

Take the tripod and get some great long exposure shots! Put your camera on bulb mode and take a shutter trigger and play around with the settings. You will be surprised with what you take when you get back home or to your room.

If I can walk around strollers and scooters all day then I don't mind if my tripod is in the way a little. I bought a light stick and hang it in the middle to give it off a little light so people know it's there.

I like the light stick idea, I'll have to go buy some before I leave. If I use the tripod, what setting shoule I start out with? should I treat it like fireworks- iso of 100, f stop of 11 and a 10 second exposure? Also, what is the snow and what is the best way to clean it off of the lens?
Thanks

That is such a clever idea! I would never have thought of it, but I am so borrowing your spark of genius with that one! :thumbsup2
