From another thread this was posted reguarding Osbourne lights...

The contract went through last year. I enjoyed the display each year . Of course the display seen by guests was extremely enhanced by Disney. It was still beautiful and will be missed!

this poster has works for WDW Entertainment in her profile. Her comments seem to loosely imply that Osborne lights will not be returning this year 2003. Has anybody else heard rumors pertaining to this subject....?????

Haven't heard this. But haven't others been posting about that area being tore down/renovated? Makes sense when you put the two together.

I will be soo sad if they are gone this year.....I'm finally bringing my kids back at Christmas they were there 8 years ago....making my kids ages 4, 2, 1....I don't think they really remember them....and the youngest who is now 6 never saw them....keeping my fingers crossed...

They would definitely have to be moved if the current rumors are true. But removed for good? I don't see the sense in this. I've never seen them but hoped to someday.

I hope this isnt true as the light display is fantastic and it would be a great loss of the x-mas atmosphere of disney studios if they are removed IMHO.
Of course with all of the dumb things disney has done of late ending this wouldnt surprise me at all.

here is the other thread

According to this other thread, it seems that Christmas 2003 will be void of any Osborne Lights. But in Christmas 2004 the lights will be displayed on the New York Street.

My parents just booked another Christmas trip to Disney because they loved the lights last year. I do not have the heart to tell them.

I hope this is true as im not going this year but will be going in 2004!!!!

i hope that they will be there in 2004!! that's when i'm going!!! i've always wanted to see WDW at christmas and this is my first chance...one of my high priorities is the osborne lights...

I felt sick to my stomach reading this thread. I'm travelling over from the UK this Christmas, spending a small fortune for the privilege too. I was so looking forward to seeing the Osborne lights. I can't believe it. We should get a discount for the disappointment!!!!!(only joking of course.......)
:p

Of course the way my luck has been going this year, I should have guessed something like this would happen.

I feel the same way...I was really hoping my kids would be able to view the lights...they are quite amazing....I'm bummed...:(

There is an rumor on screamscape saying that they are preparing to demolish the houses on residential street:

>> (5/14/03) Is the park planning on bringing the popular new Stunt show from Walt Disney Studios Paris to it’s Florida counterpart? That seems to be the popular rumor just starting to spread throughout the park. The latest word is that several construction markers have been seen on the grounds along the Residential Street area and CMs have been ordered to clear out the houses that are used as storage for the Osborne Lights to prepare for demolition to begin.<<

The OL are such a big draw. Seems odd they wouldn't appease guests and have the lights somewhere else. (Even a temporary, reduced version.) They could always move it to an area they need a bigger draw.
Let's face it, they are pretty much the same lights and displays each year, although they are spectacular.
I am sure guests plan their holidays around them. Once word gets out, Disney will be in for major complaints.

Ohhh, RATS!!

DS and I went down in early January about 3 years ago and missed them due to not checking on the Park Hours on the day we were there. We're planning another quick holiday trip this year and apparently we're going to miss them AGAIN!

DRAT:(

Screamscape today has a rumor that the hunchback area may be domolished for the stunt show:

http://www.screamscape.com/html/walt_disney_world.html

Auto Stunt Show - Rumor - (5/27/03) A few more Screamscape sources have reported in this week to confirm that they were informed that the project has been approved and ground breaking will take place in the next few months. They went on to say that the Backlot Theater (old Hunchback showplace) will be torn out during this project and that the site will be incorporated into the new show.
