Last Dec. we missed the Osbourne Lights but see they are scheduled to return this year. We are going 12/3 - 12/7 and historic MGM hours have the park closing at 7:00PM. If it doesn't get dark until 5:30 - 6:00 will we have enough time to enjoy the lights?

Absolutely! We have visited several times during the first week in December. Unless the park is closing for a special event (not open to the public), the CMs do not rush you out. Many times, they even allow/encourage guests to walk through after Fantasmic, which doesn't even begin until the official park closing time.
We've found that the best time to walk through the Lights (for least crowded conditions) is about 5 -10 minutes before Fantasmic ends. The initial "crush" is through by then and the Fantasmic crowd hasn't yet arrived.
