DH went to the GoodFeet Store to look at getting some inserts for his shoes. He has some issues with his feet. He about had a heart attack at the price. I am sure they are worth the price with the warranty on them, etc. But is there something less expensive that may good enough? Like a chevy instead of a cadillac?!

Try looking at FootSmart.com. My podiatrist originally charged me $70 for the pair of orthotics she gave me, which I must say helped tremendously. I found pretty much the exact same thing here for almost half the price. Good luck!

Orthotics can be worth every penny. However, let me warn you against getting orthotics through any source other than through a referral from your orthopedic doctor. I ordered them through my podiatrist last year (after I let him perform a surgery I should not have), they were made by some company in WA (I'm in KY), they did no good at all and it was a hassle to try to have them adjusted. So I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he referred me to a clinic in town where they make prosthetics as well as shoe orthotics. They are made on sight and they can adjust it right then and there until they get it right. It has made a world of difference!

I would be very hesitant to spend that much money on something at a retail store rather than a place where my medical doctor sent me!! That being said, my insurance fully covered mine last year, but this year I had to pay for them at the discounted insurance rate of $318. Before shelling out the money, see an orthopedic doctor that specializes in foot/ankle (do not waste your time with a podiatrist if he is in serious pain).

Edited to Add:
I have nothing against podiatrists in general. They can treat some minor foot problems effectively. However, podiatrists are legally held to a different standard than orthopedic medical doctors, and therefore there are significant differences in recommended treatments between the two specialists. If a podiatrist ever recommends surgery, seek a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon to avoid my mistakes!

Agree about custom orthotics. I had a pair made last year because of back pain, and that has completely gone. I don't see how a company far away could make them--the person who made mine spent a lot of time filing and fitting the ones made from my impressions.

FOOTLEVELERS thru the chiropractor are a godsend. I bought a pair on sale, custom, for 199 for my tennis shoes. THEY ARE AMAZING. I then ordered custom sandals and custom walking shoes for close to 300 each. They are worth EVERY penny. HONEST. Money back guarantee for one year as well!!!

Up until recently, I used Lynco orthotics (ladies 605 model). If your feet aren't really bad, thy might be a good place to start. I finally had to graduate to custom.

Use the store locator on the site. You might want to go to a store to use the machine to make sure you get the right model. After that, you can buy online if you want. Ebay has good prices.
