Orthodontist?

Just paid for son's braces the first week of June; opted to pay 95% up front (received a 5% discount). Also, I charged the entire amount - a little over $6100 - on my credit card to get airline miles:) If I were paying for three kids' braces I would try to do something similar. Yes, the credit card is already paid off -- no interest accumulated and the ortho office didn't charge us a fee for charging the balance.

What I did was put the money in my Flexible Spending Account to bring my taxable income down and then made the payments from that account. Of course now I think you can only put $2,500/yr in your FSA but the number was higher when we were going thru this.

And if you have an HSA, the amount you can contribute may be higher.

My twin 12 year olds just got on their braces today. They both need to wear them for 1 year, the price was $4400 for each. The orthodontist gave me $100 discount since I had 2 at the same time. Then the financial person brought it down to $3800 if I paid up front and cash(check), as opposed to charging it. My job also gives $1900/per person for lifetime orthodontist, so it brought it down to $1900/child. I paid up front with a check for $3800 for both of them which is PIF.
