Hi all,

Can anyone recommend an orthodontist who deals with problems with braces near Disney? Both my kids will have braces on our upcoming trip, and they occasionally get loose wires/brackets. I wanted to have a name just in case.

Thanks , Marina

I am wondering if a random orthodontist would intervene in the care of you childs braces, but maybe ask your ortho to see what they think. Both my boys have them and early on dealt with numerous wires breaking simply due to the initial thin wire used. We had wire breakage almost weekly until they figured out they can not play with the wire. We had a few late nights of having to remove the wire because it snapped. Thankfully my husband had braces and knew what to do. A few days without a wire is not a huge deal. If you are only down there a week, you might just be advised to bring something to help with cutting the wire or removing a portion if they break. Then just dealing with it when you return home. Hopefully by the time you go they will be in a thick enough wire that breakage will not be an issue (we have been doing great since moving up in wire size). Brackets are less likely to be an issue (maybe have them checked before you go), but if so i wouldn't worry about spending the time at an ortho for a bracket replacement while on vacation. A couple days is not going to be a big set back in the over all care. I'll be interested in what you get for replies/info/recommendations or others experiences with this.

Back when I was in HS (20 years ago ughh!!) my cousin was visiting us from out of state & broke a wire. My Mother called my Orthodontist who recommended she go to the ER to have them cut the wire that was digging into her gums. The only reason he agreed to fix it was when he was told she had Cerebral Palsy and the ER might be more traumatic for her. It had been broken for a few days severely cutting up her cheek & gums on the side of her face she didn't have much feeling on.

It's easy to pull out a broken wire yourself. They slide right out. Just bring a pair of pliers with you to grab it of that happens. But, I used a set of tweezers once when it happened to my son at home. A broken wire isn't a big deal.

My son actually lost a molar that had a bracket attached to it! I dealt with that one on my own too...cut the wire and pulled it out so we could free the lost tooth.

As mentioned. A strange orthodontist won't do anything. They'll trim wires at most. But they would never put in a new wire or replace a bracket.
