There was a blurb in today's Orlando Sentinel Business Section that there is going to be a 10% increase in taxi fares for Orlando City-licensed cabs.

The current rate for the first 1/4 miles is $2.00 and it is going up to $2.20.

The current rate for each additional 1/8 mile is 25¢. This makes 1/4 mile = 50¢, and the increase is to 55¢ for a 1/4 mile.

So the first mile goes from $3.50 to $3.85 and subsequent miles go from $2.00 to $2.20.

The article said that it has been three years since there has been a fare increase, and the fares are tied to CPI (and logical numbers) so an increase may be expected every three years.

The article did not state the effective date.

More of a reason to look at car service prices for round trip transportation to Disney and the port. Many car service companies will stilll charge the same amount, which is actually below the now taxi rates.

Gas and insurance isn't cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if car service companies at least try to increase their prices.

Car services have been generally been slightly cheaper then a metered taxi. I suspect this will continue.

I can't believe that a taxi would be more expensive than a town car service. Guess I better rethink my taxi idea.
