Orlando suburbs/apts?

I lived in Lake Buena Vista right outside Downtown Disney in an apartment complex called Plantation Park. It was a great neighborhood, and we never saw any crime. They're being sold as condos now, but people rent them out. A 2-bedroom was going for around $1000 when I left in January 2006. It's a great place to be because you have everything you need within 5 miles, including Disney World.

ducklite, I have a question. We are thinking of buying a condo, somewhere off of I4. We are thinking of this because my DD will be going to college down there. We have our best friends who live in Deltona now, but I don't think we want to be around there. I think my DD will be going to school in Tampa, so maybe somewhere between there and Orlando. I did look yesterday at some in Kissimee they where villas. I think they where in the Lake Marion Golf resort. They looked nice and some came furnished, which would be good for us since we will be living up here. At some point we would sell that and our house up here and move down there. We also have friends that moved to North Port, but DH doesn't want to go there because of the hurricanes. I know you can get them too, we were there in 2004 for one. I don't want to spend that much too, about $100,000. to $175,000. Looking for something like a townhouse or villa really.

Will you be working or retired?

www.orlandosentinel.com has real estate listings, that would be a good place to start to get general ideas.

Frankly your price range isn't going to buy much in the greater Orlando area these days, even in a condo.

You might want to look in the Lakeland/Auburndale area, where real estate isn't quite as pricey. It's about the halfway point between WDW and Tampa.

We will be working up here, visiting Florida more often. I did think of looking in Lakeland. Someone told my DH that we should look in Tampa, close to the school so our DD could live there her second year of school. The only thing about that is, I wanted something not so much in a big city. More outside but not far. We would love to retire, but can't right now, I am 50 and DH is 52 we have a few more years. Not planning on waiting to retirement to move, but it will be a few more years. We were going to move this year, but DH got a great promotion at work so the move is on hold. Buying the condo will be getting my foot in down there. I hate the winters up here.

Thanks I will look in the Orlando Sentinel.

There are several DIS'ers who live in the Lakeland/Auburndale area. You might want to post something on the community board. I know many of them spend time over there.
