Thanks for the details Smidgy! DH would absolutely love to go to Universal sooner rather than later. And I would love to go back as well. How many days do you think would be sufficient?

I'm not Smidgy but I would say 2 days. 1 day per park and no hopper needed IMHO. Plenty of time to do everything (if you go during off or less busy season you will ride stuff multiple times plus leave early). We used to go during busy and hot July /August and still rode Hulk and Jurassic Park twice at least. We would also stay all day as we would stay on Disney property so not convienient to run back and forth. Plus Uni hours tend to be short like Animal Kingdom hours unless during busy season. I will say though, UT sometimes has the buy 2 days get 3rd day free and that is good to back and check out things you enjoyed.

THe car is on an appendage,, octopus style,, connected to a base unit that also can move along a track,,, which it does. Each car has it's own programming, corresponding to the scenery you are passing, so I doubt that two rides would ever really be identical.

BTMRR already has enough bones, you don't need to throw in another one. It's DC's queue that made you choose BTMRR over DC isn't it? How long did it take you to navigate through that maze?

Plus I'm starting to notice a pattern here. No love for the coasters that spin you upside down and inside out; and then leave you spinning and make your insides come out when you get off them.

American suds have come a long way from when all we seemed to have were Bush, Bud, Coors and Miller. I still think the Canadian Coors Light is the same as the US Coors regular though.

But the craft beer industry has come a long way in both countries in the past couple of years. I really enjoy going to New England and trying all the local VT/MA/NH/ME etc. beers. You can get a good dark chewy brew on either side of the border now.

About 5 years ago, I had a chance to do some fund raising where if you raised enough funds you could go skydiving for free.

I thought, "Win/win." I always wanted to try it. This wasn't one of those tandem jumps. You had to step out of the plane, hang onto the wing strut, then let go.

I'd have no problem with the letting go part.

Actually,,, I always did want to try it,,,,never got to it though,,,and now I'[m not sure I'd look good in a heart attack.

Your chute was supposed to automatically open. They trained you on what to do if the chute didn't open or the lines got tangled.

Well.... I did it once and it scared the hell out of me.

But I didn't want to let fear decide for me whether or not I could/should do it.

So I did it again.

Well of course you did,,, makes sense to me.

Yup. Just as scary the second time around.


Oh, and did I mention that both... both! times the lines were tangled?

Next time you try it, call me,,, and if they get hopelessly tangled this time,,, I'll catch you.


I've reached that point where if I don't want to do something.... I'm just not going to do it. And I'm not going to feel bad about it either.

I honestly feel badly about the times I'd try to talk her, or a son,, to go on a ride with me that they clearly wanted onop part of,,,yeah,, not one of my finer moves in life.

Chocolate frogs are a little expensive, but man it takes forever to eat one of those things it seems like. I love the chocolate wands. Frozen butterbeer is better than the non-frozen, but Hogshead Beer is the best. Ask Lady H, she'll tell you.

Now on our recent trip, it was not crowded at all. We went in 2010, the year it first opened. We went 4 months later and lines were still crazy. This trip, it was practically a walk on. What a difference 2 years makes.

On November 26 of this year,,, at six at night the wait for FJ was 60 minutes. The next night, at the exact same time, it was listed at 15 minutes.

I have pictures of the inside to. I can show you what you missed.

Again,,, go for it if you have the time. I do remember a few things that came through,,, like the fat lady on the wall.

Dumbledore talking to you? Couldn't be. He died. Snape killed him and..... Right, it's all about magic.

Actually,,, it wasn't Snape,, it was Dumbledore's own wand,,, that belonged to his brother,, that Olivander made that recognized Harry as it's owner,, even though Malfoy had just had it,,,that,,,,,uh,,, what were we talking about again?

Funny,,, after gettin my head slammed into the ride car, I don't remember a moving walkway there at Rip Ride.





This is the first time we went into Olivander's wand shop as well. Line was always more than an hour wait. Never interested enough to wait that long for what is probably only a 5 minute show. You didn't miss much. It is quite cute to see once if you've never seen it, but I wouldn't do it again.

Ok,, that's pretty much what I thought.

Sum of All Thrills would be kinda close, but FJ would still take it by a land slide.

I did some Sum once and yes,,, the vvehicles are similar,,,, and yeah,, totally agree,,, Sum is nothing ,,,,, I'd be embarrased to even have that still open if I was in Disney management,,,, and it opened pretty much at the same time as FJ.

This seems to be a popular pic everyone needs to take. Lady H and I have pics with us in front of the Hogwarts Express also.

Yeah,, like going to Disney and not taking a picture by the castle.

Did you ride both tracks, or just one? I really dislike that they no longer run both cars at the same time. Both coasters are fun, but it was more fun when they would both go at the same time. The way it was designed to run.

I know, I know,,,, I only did one track this time,,,Fire.... and you can thank the idiots with cell phones for the new configuration timeing,,, more than once , somebdody got hurt from people leaning over to take pics of their friends that rode the other train., then lost the camera/phone.

This was Lady H's favorite coaster of the trip.

My favoriet coaster was the one under my beer at the poolside bar at Royal Pacific later that night.

Just got back last night from 8 days at the World so I have a lot of catching up to do! Am at work trying to slog through everything they left for me to do, so it won't be today.

Just wanted to note that as we were awaiting our bus back to the airport, someone said something about "Magical Express" and I said, "No, on the way back it's called Magical Depress" and it got a big laugh. I looked around to see if anyone would point at me and yell, "Hey, that's Nebo's line!" but they didn't so I happily stole the acclaim for myself.

That you even mentioned it is music to my ears,,,, more than welcome to claim anything you read here as your own, we are all expanding each other's vocabulary,, for the tbe better or worse. heh.
Kind of funny though,, it was that exact line that got me recognized once in the dark at Animal Kingdom,,, I was talking with a stranger and used the Magical Depress line,,,, than somebody else turned around and said,,, "NEBO"? Yeah,,, it was a "Had to be there " moment.

Got our movies a little mixed up did we? Don't worry, LoTR may be coming to Uni as well. Then it will be a common mistake for everyone.



Did you know that you can do a walking tour through FJ? When it first opened, I didn't know about this. I learned from the Universal threads about this. This allows you to walk through the queue at your own pace. Lady H and I did this while D'Sis was off riding Hulk. Something to maybe consider on your next trip to Uni.

Did not know that. so, you're saying I could take out a n entire tour group next time?

I can hardly wait until they finish the expansions as well. We love both Uni and Disney equally. Each are unique in their own way. Nebo is being brave comparing one to the other. I often tell people to not go to Uni and compare it to Disney. If you do, you will not have a good time. Enjoy each for what it has to offer.

Only if you're leading the tour group. This walking tour is not a guided tour, but rather a self guided tour; or in your case, Smidgy guide me through the castle tour. You tell the TM you want to do the walking tour and they point you in another direction. There are a few differences in the walking tour from the main queue but eventually the tour lands back up in the main queue. Once you get back in the main queue, you are in a separate line so people just walk on past you. No blocking anybody and nobody trying to mull you over to get to the ride. You can take this tour at your own pace and actually take as much time (or as little time) as you like to see everything Hogwarts has to offer.

Here's a picture I have that shows the separate queue's. Notice how empty the lane is on the left. That lane is for the people taking the walking tour.
