Orlando Smackdown: Dis vs. Uni. Ch.16 Japan Hates me, Just Hates me 7-13

Too funny....the house from the movie Sleeper sits up in the foothills just outside Denver. Whenever I drive by, I always think about the Orgasmatron.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sculptured_House

Jill in CO

So, you have the Overlook Hotel and the Sleeper house. WOW!

:rotfl2: YES I am! Good thing to clarify this day on age though.:lmao:

I'm glad you all made it safely after the crazy cab lady. I once had a cab driver upset with me because she could not break my bill (a $20) so I paid her the $8 fare in a few singles and quarters. She was livid, going off on me to the point she almost did not get paid. She is lucky I come from the service industry so I wouldn't do it. I could not believe how upset she was because hey, after me, she had change!

Amazing isn't it how people that want to accept tips never, never, have any change? ANd they LIE!

OK - I googled for samples of second-person narrative and came up with an example, which is how to build a sandcastle:

You can now construct the towers of your castle by placing one pailful of sand after another face down on the area of the beach that you have staked out for yourself. Make four towers, placing each mound twelve inches apart in a square. This done, you are ready to build the walls that connect the towers.

I did start reading a fiction book written in second-person narrative a few months ago, but it was so annoying that I only made it in about 10 pages or so. "You head down the stairs to get some breakfast, wondering how your life got to this point. Your dog whines to go out so you open the door." That kind of thing.

Oh, ok, and yes, that sounds really annoying to read.

I also remember Goofus and Gallant from the dentist's office. Does anyone besides me remember being a "Do-Bee?" As in, don't be a Don't-Be, do be a Do-Bee. Hint: The host of the show also had a Magic Mirror to wish little kids a happy birthday. (I watched the show because my town didn't offer kindergarten.)

I have been using the magic mirror for years when I do call outs. "I see Marita, I see Susan , and I see Monica and I see you too." Romper Room, Treetop House, yes, we're old.

And finally, sort of on-topic, I saw Smidgy's smackdown with the Mousekeeper on another thread and thought it was a pretty funny story. The mousekeeper should NEVER have argued with you guys- it was an honest mistake, but once she was told it WAS a mistake, she should have gracefully retreated. And, I bet she took down the Do Not Disturb sign- again, another honest mistake- I'm sure lots of people forget to remove them when they check out.

That was something allright, I'm not going there for a while though in my report, but Smidgy wanted to talk about it now.

Highlights was one of my two magazines when I was a kid. The other was Ranger Rick. And I agree - the last time I picked up a Highlights at the dentist's office I was highly disappointed. Not what I remembered at all.

Nope, you can't go home, as they say.

It has been so long since I've ridden an aluminum tube of death, I don't know what I'd do with the whole TSA rigamarole that you go through now. Of course, that whole rigamarole is exactly why we don't use the aluminum tube of death.

I am concerned about the baggage issue that will be forthcoming. --yet another reason not to ride the AToD, when you drive you know exactly where your baggage is and who is responsible for misplacing it.

Just finished working on the baggage story, but it's really a non story, so don't worry. Hey, look at that! A reverse cliffhanger! I'm losing it.

Back in the day I had a whole collection of MAD magazines and books ::yes::
I haven't read one in years! Those and Archie comic books. I remember those big blue books with bible stories in the Dr. and dentists offices back when I was little.

I can't believe the collection of old comic books that I tore the covers off and taped them to a cardboard box filled with newspaper. Why?
So I could take target practice with my new Daisy BB gun. Archie, Turok, Son of Stone, Richie Rich, Jughead, Casper, Hot Stuff, Spooky,,, they all ended up on my box.
Wonder what they's be worth today?

I got Highlights at home before I started school, afterwards throw in some Weekly Readers and Archies, then I moved up to MAD magazine. After that, right into Rolling Stone (quite a leap, I know). :upsidedow Might explain a little bit about me, now that I think about it.

Ah, forgot about the Weekley Reader. Thanks. And Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Not much, what with all those holes in them.

Nebo, you know I'm here for the marathon! :cool1:

Think of me as the chubby kids at the back of the pack. I'm puffin' along; I think I can, I think I can, I KNOW I can...

I'll pop in the odd comment if I don't think I'm TOO far behind.

Okay, before I go back and read through 10 pages or so...

Wasn't ignoring you Nebo, just had some personal issues that kept me off the boards for a few days. Might take me a bit to catch up... And Mike and Heather, soon's I'm done here I'll run over to your TR too...

I was beginning to wonder about you. I was going to have bankr go check on you. I would've done it myself, but I don't possess a passport. At least not yet.

Couple of things before I get to the last chapter...

I had no idea I was going to go and do what I did at the end of this post, so please, if you want to stay on the wonderful congratulations and just Disney stuff,,, don't read further than the last quote.

Yeah, right, that'l work!

No kidding! If there was anyone out there who was waffling (and why do people waffle? Can't they pancake or omelet instead? :confused3) that should have sucked them right in.

I know I've been a bad host,

<sigh> Disney. It creeps into everything. I immediately thought, "Your ghost host?"

yeah, I let the punch bowl go dry, and everybody is putting on their coats.

Well... yeah. Apparently there aren't enough cheese doodles on the continental land mass. I was just going out for more with the Fuzzy Bunny Boy.

I did finish 11/22/63 though.

An incredible book, but not exactly what I'd call, "uplifting".

Er... no.

I kept waiting for the happy ending.

Oh! Oh! I've got it! If you've never read Heinlein's "The Door Into Summer". Run, don't walk... wait, I forgot about your predisposition to injury. Walk... slowly... and get it as quickly and safely as you can. You will not be disappointed.

I don't recall his ealier works coming across as so depressing, although I guess the story lines were.
Is it me?

Well I remember reading a heartfelt, charming story about a boy and his dog. I didn't get too far into it, but it seemed nice. I think it was called "Cujo".

Diane once came in and performed "Last Rites".

And we aren't Catholic.

So... you are now? I didn't even know you could do that on your own.

What i'm also trying to NOT say, is that there is no way I could sit down and try to write a chapter with the front part of my brain thinking pleasant, funny Disney thoughts, while the back part of my brain is picturing all those kids, and the adults too, getting shot multiple times.
Believe me, whatever I had written would not have been worth reading.

Yeah... I hear ya. Some things are too big for a person. Comprehension eludes and logic despairs.

on 11/ 22 of this year, I made a phone call to my uncle, and Godfather, who I haven't talked to in about three years.

It was his birthday, which is 3 days before my mom's b-day, 4 days before my b-day, and 5 days before my parent's anniversary, throw in a dead turkey and you can imagine what that time was like in my younger days.

Reminds me of my past with everyone going out to my Uncle's place in the country and having a great time at Christmas or summer BBQs. When he passed suddenly it all just stopped.

Ol Corky is great on a computer, he can find out who won the Kentucky Derby,
next year!

If you're letting T-Man in on this, I want in too!

When the silence broke,,,"steve, not sure how to tell you this, but Uncle Sonny has been dead for over 3 years."

I couldn't believe that nobody called me, and I don't know how right now, or even if I should, find a way to contact the rest of his family.

How can you love somebody and think about all the times he took me fishing and not talk for over 3 years?

Easy. Life.

I seem to remember a quote that went something like, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making plans."

Or as I am wont to say, "Life gets in the way."

I really have to slow down... some day.

A day and a half later, a big Aluminum tube of death took us down to Disney.
And two weeks later, I start reading 11/22/63, which happened on his birthday.
Yes, I know, co-incidences happen, but the word that comes to mind right now is "Irony".

"If a person who indulges in gluttony is a glutton, and a person who commits a felony is a felon, then God is an iron." — Spider Robinson.

I'm sorry, but that's where my mind has been, life isn't all Sunny D's and Vikes and Fuzzy cups.

Yes. That's true. It's been brought home to me quite clearly, recently.

(Yes, I do think Fuzzy Cups have now earned the right to be a proper noun, meaning, Capitalized.)

Like Minsk?

And the sun came up again this morninig, though you could barely tell by looking out at the gloomy, cloudy day, but the tv came on, the stores opened, Mischief puked on the carpet, and life goes on.

Until sometime today, December 21st. According to the Mayan calendar and every crackpot on the planet.

All I know is someone's going to be embarrassed at the end of the day. It's either those folk in the nuclear bomb shelter or those not in the shelter.

Do I post this?
This is a Facebook type of thing, not a Disney Trip Reports thing.

But of course you do. That's why we're here.

I think I can get back to work and have a REAL chapter ,,, you know, with all the innuendos and typos,

and commas,,,, mustn't forget the comas,,,,

back up in another two days, until then, thank you, I love you, God bless.

Thanks for posting that. Some things are better left unsaid... that wasn't one of them.

I made a funny post the other day about how we're all a dysfunctional family (or as someone funnier than me stated a DISfunctional family) and I really feel like we are. We're not just here for the funny stories, we're here for the feeling of family and connection we all have with each other. We bring to each other funny comments to share to feel connected, we also bring our good news and happy tidings but when tragedy strikes our lives we also turn to our family for support, empathy, and a sense of togetherness. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is we're there for each other in both happy times and sad ones. There is nothing in the world that can make any sense out of what happened to those innocent children and teachers, it makes us all feel sad and a little less safe in our daily lives. I'm sorry also for your own recent times of loss and emptyness.

That was well said, as were several other comments posted here. I decided not to quote them all... but, and I'm not kidding, this really is a great place to come and be with people who don't judge and instead are empathetic and kind. You guys are great, you really are.

OK, I will throw in a good news post to get this a little bit lighter, if you don't mind.

After 31 1/2 years, the last mortgage check is in the mail! :cool1:

Now that is awesome. Must feel amazing!

Did someone say snacks?

:faint:

Poor Nebo looked at me like I was crazy when I randomly hugged him, and I had to quickly explain that it was for you and that I wasn't trying to make a pass...

That little sound you all heard just there? That was Nebo's little tiny heart breaking.

Ok, Ponzi's back, we missed you.

I DO hope that what I'm thinking are your personal issues
recently isn't true, really hope things work out for you.

And you're not going to like this part, I've got the next chapter pretty much in the can already.

Ok, Ponzi's back, we missed you.

Thanks!

I DO hope that what I'm thinking are your personal issues
recently isn't true, really hope things work out for you.

You're probably wrong... but things are a bit better... I hope.

And you're not going to like this part, I've got the next chapter pretty much in the can already.

Agh! I'm working on the rebuttal of the last one even as we speak.

Oh, go ahead and post it if you must. It'll just make me cranky.

Heeeeyyyyy!
I've been sitting here, bored, not sure what I wanted
to read or look at, and I ended up pulling up all my "subscriptions".
I still have all my trip reports still in there.
What kills me is that the old reports are still gaining views.
Why? I have no idea, not like you can comment or post on something.

Then I started looking at numbers.
And I added up all the views from all the reports.

I hope this doesn't come across as vain, or patting myself on the back, cuz it's really all of hyou that I'm patting on the back.

But just from the trip reports themselves, not counting
the dining reviews, we have crossed one million views!
Only took 6 years! :rotfl2: One million, and ten thousand to be exact.
Not exactly what I'd call "viral", but it's still a cool number.

So everybody congratulate yourselves, it truly has been a team effort.

Ponzi, I am trying to hold up on the next chapter, but like I said, i'm bored. You SAY your are working on the rebuttal, but you aren't even on the Dis.

Ok, I'll do a Ponzi.

If one person asks me to post the next chapter, I'll go back and work on it and finish it up.

:artist:

And you wonder why some of us have 4,000 posts or more. You know you're getting awfully heavy to carry. And having a bad foot is no excuse. :lmao: Just kidding. You bring Disney to life, that's why people are still reading your old TR's.

So when do we get the next chapter?

Sorry Ponzi. It sounded too much like a dare and I had to ask.

After arriving at MCO, and our first monorail ride of the trip, we reach the main part of the airport.

We were told that our checked bags would be upchucked at
baggage claim number 4.
We went there.

Nothing.
But the one next to it started to spit things out, number 5.
(Johnny 5 is Alive!)

Sure enough, here comes Smidgy's "just under the legal limit, probably alcohol wise as well," suitcase.

She snatches it off the conveyor belt.

Which goes over, around, back in, past the hole, and then returns to us.
I started to look at it as a clock, as the big, pink, suitcase went around, and around, like the second hand.

Then it seemed more like a stage to me, with new performers joining the belt that got spit out from the hole in the wall.

We waited and watched the show.
It was pretty boring, I had a hard time following the plot but we were still a captive audience.

Then we waited some more.
Wouldn't you think that two suitcased that were checked into the airport at the same time would end up being at least close to each other, in cargo?
"Clutch Cargo, with Spinner and Paddlefoot will be right back!"
And nobody remembers that, do you?

After a while, no new performers were taking the stage, and most of the older ones were leaving the stage.

The hole had quit spitting.

After a while, Diane went in search of assistance, I'd heard about countless stories from people with lost luggage, but it's never happened to us.

I kept vigil.

Still nothing.

Diane doesn't return for another ten minutes or so, but this time with a guy in tow.

Things are now coming out on station 4, and I'm running back and forth trying to watch both.

Back at numer 5, Diane is now explaining to the guy what it looks like, as he's staring at the almost empty, conveyor.

After she finishes her description, he says,
"You mean it looks like this one?"
And grabs my bag as it's just passing by.

I don't know where it came from.
I had been looking at the hole and did NOT see it spit up
another one!

But it's here and I don't care and I quickly unzip it and my Black Velvet is in there and all my little bottles are there
and Toto we're home, we're really home and I love you all very much!

As I'm doing this, her suitcase just falls over.
Nobody touched it, it just fell over on it's own.

Turned out the bottome was busted up, that holds it in an upright position.

It's 6 days old, I just bought it last week, this is it's first trip.

From Wallmart.

Rest in pieces suitcase, she took it back when we got back. It had already gotten on her Ca Ca list because the handle didn't extend enough.

We then had to choose between Mears or a taxi. The guy at the taxi stand said they accept credit cards, so did Mears I think, but we chose the cab, since it would be a direct route without other people's stops.

We should have gone with Mears.
He even added in tolls, then when he pulled up at Doubletree, it was,,, "oh no, cash only, no credit cards accepted."

I really didn't want to have to hit into my cash reserve this hard, this early, but I had no choice now.

The Doubletree turned out to be a little fancier than I expected.

If you are wondering why we are spending one night staying at the Doubletree, it's simple.
The next day is one of the busiest travel days, and expensive, of the year. We save 200 in air fare by leaving a day sooner.

We checked in, our room was ready and I might have our first pictures to post here on this report.

100_2194.jpg

They were just starting the Christmas decorating then, on the 24th.

100_2195.jpg

It was in the low seventies, so we went out by the pool.
100_2196.jpg

The problem was, this hotel is huge, and this time of year, the sun, even way down in Florida, is really low in the sky.
So we are back to playing hide and seek with the building's shadows, I swear, you can actually see them move!

It was a pretty nice pool area, no, I didn't go in the pool, that doesn't happen when it's not in at least the eighties with me, but we both did go in the hot tub, had it to ourselves.
Biggest hot tub I've ever seen! You could swim laps in there if you wanted to.

Back at our loungers, they are now in shade so we moved them.
Ten minutes later, we're in the shade again, and it was chilly. I could tell that the whole deck was going to soon be in shade, so we gave up and went back on up.

I keep thinking I'm so much further south than in Chicago that it will be a big difference astronomy wise, but it's really just a drop in the celestial bucket I guess.

This is ok, we just start Cocktail Hour early today, and that's allright.

We nixed walking over to CityWalk at Universal, it wasn't quite as close as we were led to believe, not even sure if there's sidewalks the whole way, and the way my luck has been going, I really don't want to be hit by a car, but out the window, I can see a TGIF down below us, so we decided to have dinner there tonight.
Baby, those commas are a flowing tonight!
I wish I could run-on as far as my sentances do.

This window:

100_2198.jpg

Then she asked me if I was up for Yahtzee.

I feigned deafness.

I've played that game with her before.

Literally!

Dinner I think was burgers, but I do remember the highlight was the way they made mozarella sticks, really big, crispy, and flat, not the super chewy things I've always had before. Even Smidgy liked t hem.

_______________________________________________

Sunday, Nov. 25

We are packed, well, we really never "unpacked", and out front letting a guy hail us a cab.

You can't "call" a cab, cabs have to be "hailed"

"Oh hail Billy Joe, where's the durn cab?"

I tried to sleet a cab once, nothing happened.

I'll stop now.

This guy wanted cash too, but it was a short ride and didn't cost that much. It's like they all have that invisible sign in the window; "In God we trust, everybody else pay cash".

Shortly, we are back at our beloved Royal Pacific resort, Universal Orlando.
I'm sorry all you Disney purists, but it's not a bad thing to give money to Disney's competitor,
keeps them on their toes.

Out in front, a guy runs up to us with the big luggage cart and starts grabbing our bags and placing them on it as they were coming out of the cab's trunk.
He then made what was close to a fatal mistake, as in, "the last thing he ever did" kind of mistake, when he went for my Carrion bag.

You know, the one that has my "prescription painkillers " in it.

"Touch that bag and you die!"

I don't believe in beating around the bush.

I didn't think eyes could open that wide.

During check in, Diane reminded the girl I was a Loews First member, entitling us to either a free gift or a room upgrade, (if available) and I handed her my card. This is now our fifth time staying here, and it, too, feels like home to us. We have always been put in Tower 2, which was the smoking tower. Now, it doesn't matter.
Wait, hold it.
OOOOHH, smoke, wonderful smoke, inhaling, deeply, exhale,,, OOOOH.

Ok, I'll be allright now.

It doesn't cost anything at all to join Loews First. But you're supposed to USE it more than once every few years.
One time we got a free bottle of wine, another time a nut and fruit basket, and one time we were upgraded to a KING SUITE! That was the last time we were here.

She assigns us room 2600.

I like the simple number.

And, it was READY at 9:30 in the morning!

Ready for the short tour? Turn up your speakers a bit to hear me. But all I ask is please after you view the video,
it's going to be really tempting to watch the other videos I took that will pop up, so, DON'T! No, really, takes the fun out of it then.

Isn't that the coolest thing?
Upgraded to a King Suite again! And we came because we got a PIN code for 40% off in the first place. Our room (s) is/are, costing us I think it was 134 a night!

A pic of the grounds:

100_2203.jpg

This is now going to bring us to our first head to head matchup; Dis vs. Uni.

Staying at one of the 3 Uni resorts is very much like staying at an Epcot resort. You can walk to two parks, they both have classy resorts, But Uni has Citwalk, which I think beats out Boardwalk activities. And staying at any of the Uni Hotels let's you use ANY of their pools and slides.

The scale tipper though is that when you stay at a Uni resort, you get automatic fastpasses for everything, unlimited times, and that's the deal breaker.

Uni 1, Dis 0

At ten thirty Sunday morning, we passed throught the turnstyles for Uni Studiios. Oh, first we did have a problem with getting our tickets that we ordered on line, but guest relatiions straightened it all out.

I hate when I have to have relations with other guests.

US can be a hassle though with their show times schedule, running a lot of them at the same times so you can't get out of the park early. We headed right to the new Despicable me.

It was ok, better than the Jimmy Neutron it replaced, which was worse than the Hanna Barbara it replaced. The pre show is really funny, with Steve Carrol going all out.

No, Dis doesn't have anything comparable.

Then we went across the street to Shrek 3'D.

Good pre show, the movie sucks though.
Dark, grainy, annoying moving seats.
Now here's a good head to head, puppet/CGI characters in 3'D;
Muppetvision is better.

Uni 1, Dis 1

It's now time for Terminator 3'D to start, and I'm getting 3' D'd out. Actually, I can't see 3'D stuff like I used to. They have to be 3' D type tricks for me to get any use out of it, like when Ariel Lunges forward in Philharmagic, that's what i like. Apparently, you need TWO eyes to see the 3-D movie stuff, and I'm basically down to just one, now.

But Terminator 2, 3'D is the best of all of them, no arguments, case closed. I think Smidgy might choose Philharmagic, but she can write her own dang trip report.

Uni 2, Dis 1

We then had to hustle to get to the back for the next Beetlejuice Graveyard ReVUE. (Oh, Smidgy is going to be so proud I spelled it correctly)

100_2204.jpg

He was good, the show was good. Disney has nothing like it.

100_2205.jpg

Oh, that's right, I took a video. Crank it UP!

I liked it when Dracula sang "I want a girl like Frankie's girl, where can I find a woman like that?"

Next we are over at Disaster, which used to be Earthquake, and guess who got picked as a volunteer?
No, not me, as br'er Rabbit says, " I learned my lesson" at the Indy Stunt Show, but Smidgy is leaving me now to join the cast. No kidding, if there is ANYTHING, any show, any attraction, ANYTHING AT ALL, she has gotten picked for it!
I'm surprised she hasn't flown down from the castle yet to start Wishes!

I once got stepped on by PUSH, the talking trash can cuz he didn't see me.

In the first pic she's way on the right side of the stage, sitting with a couple others;

100_2207.jpg

Then I got her leaving when her role was done, which I'm still not exactly sure what that role was, except to sit on the far right side of the stage for awhile. :lmao:

100_2208.jpg

It was finally time for the Mummy, even though I really wanted to do this at night, only there wasn't going to be a "night" here at the Studios, since it closes at six.

There was a fifteen minute wait for the Mummy.

Ha! We flashed our cards and were on in 5.

Let's see, does Disney have an indoor themed roller coaster? Yes, two to be exact, but I'm going to use Rock'n Roller Coaster in the head to head. I'm sorry, Space Mountain is just a Wild Mouse ride in the dark.

Now I'm going to get people mad at me, but I choose The mummy as the winner, a lot better theming, cooler effects and generally more fun. It's also a longer ride, RRC doesn't last two minutes.

Uni 3, Dis 1

I realized then that I HAD to do Rip, Ride, Rock it. We were here the last time when it just opened, and the liine was over an hour long.
Now?

It's walk on! Don't even need the room card.
And I'm nervous.
Been a long time since I've tried a new coaster.

Smidgy walked up with me, took my hat and glasses, and
I was muttering, "dumb husband, dumb husband" (smile ladyH)

Hey, I'm getting older, I heard heart attacks are no fun.

You're supposed to pick your own music you want, but I was in a single rider line and didn't get a chance to choose squat.

I didn't care, not here for the tunes.

It's a better coaster than I expected, I probably like it better than the Hulk next door. No Dis comparisons.

I guess we'll call it quits there, so,
"To be continued"

No probs here with posting a chapter. My break ended and what I've got so far is sitting at work waiting for me to pick it up again tomorrow.

I'll catch up soon enough. :)

YAY for a room upgrade !! We haven't gotten over to Uni yet, but my DS really wants to go.

Wow, they close at SIX ??? I think Disney should get a point for staying open later .... just sayin'.

BTW - you can get those Friday's mozzarella sticks from the grocery store or Wal-mart. They taste pretty good if you bake them. I admit they are better at the restaurant.
