Orlando Smackdown: Dis vs. Uni. Ch.16 Japan Hates me, Just Hates me 7-13

Allrighty now.
I am just finishing loading all my ups into P-Bucket, I didn't think I took all that many pictures but with the holiday decos, and Diane making sure I got them, I guess I did.

Right now though, the problem with getting a decent start on the trip comes down to pages, as in 850 of them, and you can blame Stephen King for that. It seems like
I've been reading non stop for 3 days and I'm not even half way through 11-22-63. I've always been a rather slow reader, and as the eyes got worse, so did my speed rating.
Evelyn Woods would not be pleased with me, but Ii'm not stopping now.
It's funny that first Diane told me to tough it out when it hits a really slow part, and then without knowing she said that, Ponzi said the same thing, so as I'm reading now, I keep wondering, "oh, is this that part?" because a LOT of it is truly a "character study", and can get boring at times.
Sometimes I think Steve needs a tad of editting to his works, and speaking of editting, can you believe that Peter Jackson is stretching out what was a rather slim, children's book, The Hobbit, into 3, count 'em, THREE Movies?

By the way, I have always tried to keep our life on the DIS as a sort of escapism from work, problems, basic life in general, especially politics. But I feel like I would be a jerk to not at least mention what happened today in Connecticutt, my mind can't seem to grasp how someone, anyone, could do something like that, I'm sure your prayers will be like mine tonight.

:sad1: I work in a school and not only is it incredibly sad, it's also really scary!! I really wonder about this world sometimes.

Hey, I got all the pictures in the bucket, and even got a bit of a start on the next chapter. I need to find that grooove again.

Oh PRAC! No no no no no. I was definitely not calling you stupid!
I apologize if it came off that way.

I guess what I meant was just as you were curious why someone from another country would know that address, I can say that up here in Canada we probably watch more US TV then Canadian. That's why I'd know the address. I'd bet that most Canadians know more US history then Canadian simply because we see more of yours then ours.

Again, sorry if I offended.

Hey, c'mon, I"m just giving you a hard time, I know your weren't being mean. But you know what's funny? I have almost no idea or knowledge of your country at all.
Who runs it, do you have elections? Nuclear weapons? I know nothing!

I'll never tell :cool2:. Must be an old movie, cause my software is severely obsolete :sad2:

Hey hey, your software is just fine! But I know hoy you feel though, I feel like I'm still runnning DOS, myself.

Funny you should mention DOS. My son, 33, posted on facebook today that he has no idea what the #whatever means on Twitter. I admit, I didnt know either and had been wondering. So I googled it.

Here is a Public Service Announcement for all Neboites like me left in the dark ages:

Hash tags. You are probably familiar with tagging photos with a short piece of text. Twitter has this capability, too.
The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages. If you click on a hash tag, it will show you all the other tweets associated with a hashtag

So for example, you could put #Christmaspresent in your tweet as a reference to the new Mercedes you got from Santa for Xmas

And a handy, dandy link to an easy site:

Happy Tweeting!

Whew. Ok. more to read. I'm so excited this addresses the "other Orlando park" which I've been bi-curious about. (Still at the skimming stages, though).

So you can remember your login info! Who knew?

Today's tradegy has me deep in thought. I don't think I or anyone for that matter will ever understand it.

True story: We were in class teaching and this man in a suit walked into our room. My cooperating teacher asked him can I help you and he mumbles. She asked him again and he says I have a mental disorder, as he is standing in our classroom. Another teacher walks in and addresses him that he needs a visitor pass to be in the building and escorts him to the office "to get one".

I hate that this school lets parents walk freely into the building. They are supposed to check in the office before they come to classrooms, but they don't. MOst of them just want to pick up their kids. I wish they had to wait at the office and the students would be escorted to them. They need to make some structural changes to make the building more safe.

HEy, your icker says you're going back in a little while? How'd you manage that?
Quick story: I was in physical therapy after my foot was crushed, and as the little girl therapist was trying to increase Range of Motion in my foot, by moving it around, there was a sudden, very loud, SNAP!
She looked at me in shock and all I could tell her was that what ever it was, it didn't hurt.
I had a follow up doc appointment two days later anyway, and it turned into some really funny x-rays, two of the titanium screws holding my foot together were snapped in half! Time for another operation.

Yep going back in January. We had points to use up. The kids are out of school and it's my birthday. It's just for about 4 days, but it will be great.

Yeah. PT sucks. They made me get this stretching machine thingy to work on my range of motion at home. Actual words from the PT guy "crank it up until you get a good 5 or 6 on the pain scale and hold it for five minutes." Yeah, that sounds like a whole lotta fun. NOT !!

That is nuts that your screws broke. Now we can honestly say you had a couple of screws loose, right ?? :lmao:

Sorry you had to go back under the knife. The only thing that keeps my doing these stretches on this stupid machine is the threat that if I don't I will have to get the scar tissue scoped out if I don't bust it loose in my own. Thank goodness for vikes ....

We do have elections every five years and there's no limit to how many "terms" our supreme adjudicators can have. Eventually they tick off the populace enough and get voted out. There are anywhere from two to six main co-operatives that field candidates. Usually parties can choose any method of selecting their candidates but typically they're chosen in January and February when it's coldest so they can more accurately gauge their strength and cold weather stamina. Definitely no more than two co-operatives can hold power at the same time though, and when they do, the co-operative with the least votes determines any tied policy votes. This of course leads to a lot of back room deals and it frequently results in the lowest co-ops becoming the most powerful and usually get voted in next election.

Many of us are parents and the rest have kids that we love, regardless of familial connection (or the lack thereof). No one can hear the news of today and be unchanged. Pray for those in agony tonight, and hug those little ones (or not so little ones) whom you love. Remember that love and hope overcome evil every time.

I'm not going to weigh in on the tragedy. If I say what I feel right now I'll probably get banned. Suffice to say anger, disbelief, sadness... all there.

:confused3:crazy2:

Was never good at this stuff, hopefully this will never come up in the classes I teach or I will have to bring in my special guest pkondz for some help.

Marita, I have never twittered or facebooked or My Spaced in my life, meaning, I have no idea what you are talking about, however, isn 't that "icon" a "natural" sign?
Or as I used to say as a kid, "The Tic Tac Toe Sign".

So you can remember your login info! Who knew?

Whoa, a surprise sucker punch from Monica.

Oh dear Lord, please tell me you are not apologizing.

And now a right cross to Ponzi, which is also meant to hurt me by proxy, since it was I he "may" have been apologizing to.
And here I was going to say that you look cute in your new avatar.

Yeah, I understand, but I really don't think that this kind of thing can be prevented, no matter what you do, if he had been stopped at the door, the shooting just would have started earlier I suppose.
Unless somebody really wants to talk about it, I'd prefer to keep this thread a sanctuary FROM these kind of tragedies.

Didn't you just have a birthday about a year ago?

A couple of years ago I looked for those xrays, but I can't find them now, they would really be funny to scan and post.

mmmmm zebra vikes, mmmm

That was operation number 2 , removing the broken screws, which wasn't a complete success because two were broke in half, and the Phillips head for the screwdriver only got out the top part of the broken ones.

Ohhh. Okay, I get it.
I have no idea what you just said, but I noticed you did leave out the nuclear question though.

As for the nuclear part... and this will be refreshing because it's actually true!

The Rhinoceros Party was formed back in the 1960s (nope, not kidding... Google it) and ran for about 30 years. It was basically a way for some people to show their lack of faith or respect for the electoral process or candidates.

One of its platform promises was, and I quote, "Storing nuclear waste in the Senate. "After all, we've been storing political waste there for years.""

One of the more reasonable political promises I've heard.

Brilliantly said by Nebo: And here I was going to say that you look cute in your new avatar.

And so you did, thanks!

Let me all entertain you for a few minutes, I finished my TR. Last chapter up and complete! Well it will be in about 3 minutes.

Glad to see I haven't missed too much. Only 16 pages to catch up on, plus work on ours. " Laissez les bons temps rouler "

This is me getting ready to line up to go walk for graduation. I am now the proud owner of a Masters of Science in Nursing degree. That milestone in my rearview mirror I am now counting down the days (18) until we go to Disney to celebrate! Staying at the Beach Club - normally we are not Deluxe folks but got a great military rate (hubby is retired from the AF). Can't wait!

Lookit you rocking that cap and gown. :thumbsup2 Way to go! Are the purple (they look purple to me on my puter anyway) tassles indicative of the Master, the Science or the Nursing? Or something else?

Getting dressed in my regalia was a marathon - we all had to help each other :rotfl:. The cap and gown are worn to symbolize the BSN I already had, the hood symbolizes the Masters - it is the orange, white and apricot thing dangling down my back (you can see it better on the lady in the background). The orange and white represent my school and the apricot represents nursing. The purple and white cords are honors cords. When you graduate with your masters it is actually called hooding or getting hooded.
