Hey, has anyone flown in to Orlando/Sanford Airport? There is a super deal on airfare and I am not sure how far it is from WDW. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I live close to the airport. You can't get Magical Express, but it is a small airport and you should be able to get out quickly - and it's about 45 or so minutes to Disney. I usually take I-4, but you can get 417 to avoid more traffic.
The price of airfare is so cheap I was thinking a rental car wouldn't make the trip too expensive...I am trying to convince DH to change our trip for April from 7 days parkhoppers to APs and go back a few times on the $59 airfare!!
My DS and his DGF had fabulous airfares with Allegiant to WDW last year and they flew into S/O Airport. The airline had shuttles to WDW but it was something like $20.00pp e/w! It was worth it to them as the airfare was so reasonable and they were under 25yo and renting a car would have been costly. They thought the airport was absolutely fine.
We flew into Sanford and I love that airport! We were in and out so quickly...we did however rent a car (which we would have done anyway). We went with Alamo and if you look around enough you can get a good deal! (The rental cars did seem a little more pricier than flying into Orlando International). But after looking, imputting different codes in and such we got a great deal...an impala for $160 (including taxes) for 9 days! You've got to be persistent with checking constantly.
Thanks! I started playing around with the codes last night trying to figure out how much to plan on a rental car. Has anyone rented a car and drove to Dis and returned the car there and then rented again for 1 day to drive back to the airport? We really won't need the car the whole time, or perhaps I should check into the shuttle service!
I flew in there last Dec great little airport, we were out of the aiport within about 15 mins including picking up the rental car. We were driving to Tampa but drove right by Disney and I think it was about 50 mins to get to the exit
We fly into Sanford last October on Allegiant. It was fun. They had a boat in the middle of the terminal with a ad saying "this boat with motor and trailer can be yours for $15 thousand dollars !!" Very cool, very Florida-y.
We lived in the Chicago area for 10 years and while Sanford is certainly no Midway or O'Hare, [ha ha ha] the money saved by flying there instead of into MCO was great. We rented a car and were at our hotel on I Drive within 1 hour and 15 minutes of walking off the plane, BUT we landed at like 10 PM at night.
One word of caution. On our outbound flight, we assumed that we could grab a burger or hot dog before leaving. Well .. you can. But be advised there is like 1 guy doing everything and we waited maybe 40 minutes for 2 burgers with fries. I remember thinking whatever that kid was being paid, it was not enough.
I havent been to Sanford yet but do have some Allegaint advice. If you like the price of the ticket ~ buy it right then. I was waiting to see if they would go down from Spfd, MO to Sanford and it ended up going WAY up instead.
The fuller the plane gets the higher the prices go. Plus there is only a set number of tickets they will sell for that low price. Just yesterday I booked a flight to St Petes ( because it was way cheaper then to Sanford) I paid $69 for 3 tickets and $99 for the other 3 tickets. They only had 3 left for the $69 price and I needed 6 tickets.
I also learned the looking online at the seating chart is not a way to see how many seats are left on the plane. It only shows the seat people paid to reserve. I thought it was how many seats were left on the flight ( silly me )
hope that helps some

We flew into Sanford last year, direct from Portsmouth, NH. It's a nice little airport. It was about 45-50 minutes to our condo in Kissimmee. We rented a car from Alamo for $103-a Chevy Impala-for a week. Allegiant changed their service out of Portsmouth, NH to "Seasonal" so they aren't flying to FL in the summer anymore. As a teacher, this really bums me out! We can't get a direct flight out of Portland, ME or Manchester, NH, and Allegiant was almost always cheaper than flights from either airport or from Boston. Plus more convenient. Our flight home was delayed after we'd gone through security, and we found that the snack bar has great chicken caesar salads. We didn't wait for hot food.
