We will be flying into that airport. I really think it sucks that Disney doesn't pick you up from there, but nothing I can do about that. WEll I'm looking at shuttle info, and it all looks pricey. And have a minimum of people. We are just 2 adults and a two year old. DH said we would rent a car, but now someone told him they took a shuttle, and he thinks we can just hop on one there. I have no clue, but I think you have to make arrangements for one. Plus we need to get back at some point.
For those who have flown into there, what have you done? I think the best bet would be rent a car. But I think we should do it ahead of time and not take any chances. Plus it takes an hour to get to Disney from there, and the last thing I want to do is screw around in the ariport deciding what to do.
Any suggestions?????

Here is my suggestion whether you like it or not. You got tickets costing you a lot less than landing Orlando International. You got a direct flight flight from an small airport close to your home. So now some of the money you saved is going to have to be spent getting to Disney. Here are your choices:

Pick up a taxi at the airport, because you didn't pre-arrange a ride, and it will cost you approx. $115.00 each way to Disney. The ride would be in a metered taxi.

Find a shuttle service and you will be paying a minimum fare of 4 tickets to Disney, because they won't take three people at one time, at approximately $25.00 per person.

Find a car service and you will pay $180.00 to $230.00 for round trip transportation to Disney.

We didn't save money coming into this airport we are spending over 100 dollars additonal on airfare. But My DH rather spend it than got up to Detroit. In the long run going out of Detroit and Going into Orlando airport would've been MUCH cheaper for us.
It looks like everything will cost about the same. So we might as well rent a car. I will tell him that. I rather rent a car and have it there, than spend money on a taxi or shuttle.
If I get one online it will be cheaper than trying to get one last minute too.

Renting a car is probably your cheapest option. Sanford only saves you money if you had planned to rent a car anyway during your stay. The airport was originally being used by European tour operators who offered air/hotel/rental car all in one package. The addition of scheduled airlines offering airfare only is a fairly recent development. There are transportation options but for those headed to the attractions area, because of the distance, the options are expensive.

Another option is to rent a car at Sanford and drop it off at one of the DTD hotels or at the San or at the car rental center at MK. We did this for the Disney cruise and it was much cheaper than any other sort of transportation. You can keep the car for a whole day and get to do off-property things that way. We did the same thing to get back to the airport.

Well I reserved one from Dollar for 155.00 I'm new to this. Do we pay when we get there. It never asked for any payments and I was surprised.

They will run your credit card and put a "hold" on it. You will be billed when you return the car. You should go back to the Dollar site and see how much they will hold and be certain your card limit can handle it.

That information varies by car and is probably not on their site. You should call them and see if they can give you a figure for the car class you reserved. Many people who have a low credit limit use multiple credit cards for their trip; one to rent the car and have the credit hold use up most of their credit and a different credit card for everything else. Of course your hotel will block a lot of credit too for your anticipated stay, when you check in.

We have like 11,000, left on our card at least, so I dn;'t think it will be a problem.
I did look and it said about 15% more is held. So that shouldn't be too bad.
