Orlando Monorail out to bids....

Commenting on the OP, wasn't it years ago that Disney offered to pay for a monorail link from the airport...as long as it stopped first @ WDW on the way from the airport and last on the return? Think they also wanted to control that you could only go one direction (to the airport) if you got on at Disney?

Surprising Orlando didn't jump at that...umm.

Truthfully, Disney is going to fight anything, or put up as many barriers as possible, that even hints at the ability of getting off-property once you're within the "bubble." I doubt if Orlando does build the system with a line to WDW that Disney will let it go any further than DTD, and then Disney will build their own system from DTD that you will need a MB to get on.

Alternatively, they'll build a check-in counter @ DTD for resort guests so you can check-in there coming from the convention center and then take Disney transportation from there to your resort.

The days of just hopping on a bus from DTD to get to a resort (and then on to one of the parks) without some sort of ID check is quickly coming to an end!

All good points and I do like the idea of checking in when you would leave the Orlando Monorail and then take Disney transportation to your resort.

What if because Disney weren't interested, the second stop further up I drive was at Universal resort? Direct link from the airport to WWOHP? Would that get Disney interested do you think?

I think if this actually goes though, WDW has no choice but to run the line right to WDW.

Why else do we have Expedition Everest and Rock'n Rollercoaster? They're sorely out of place and standalones to everythine else in their respective parks.

But you're right, Skipper, an extension to WDW is inevitable if it does get approved. And if not terminating at DTD then possibly TTC; I just don't see Disney making it easy for resort guests to get off-property without at least one excruciating shuttle ride, and then provided you leave them your luggage as "security" to guarantee your return.
