Ok, I posted the last time I saw Orlando in the news and am posting again to get a feel from the locals if this is something I should be concerned with. Last time many folks who live in Orlando said the crime was in a pretty much isolated area but I won't pretend the crime situation reported here isn't a worry to me.

Does anyone know if WDW has stepped up its security in response to stories like this one?
:sad2: i'm not being funny but every area has it bad things only this week about a 5 minute walk from my house a girl got murdered in her flat(these flats are apparently for young professionals). I'm not worried about where i live these things do happen. Unfortunately there are bad people out there but the good outnumber the bad. :confused3

Yes, with the exception of the innocent man who was shot and killed entering his apt during a robbery attempt and the woman who was coming home from work, had just gotten off the bus and was walking to her apt. when she was robbed, shot and killed and what about the Missing young lady who disappered at the begiining of they yr? All of these incidents occured in MetroWest if i remebber correctly. O-Town is worse than Los Angeles.

But NONE of that happened anywhere near WDW. Crimes like that happen all over the US every day. And I think the folks in Compton and West LA might have a differing opinion...

The point is that tourists are not being targeted for random acts of violence. Would someone find me anything that shows that they are?

You know as a complete outsider who actually lives in the Uk..and just stumbled on this thread..Iam disgusted with the attitudes towards a poster here.
It does come across like playground bullying...Whats all this Yeah right on buisness ...like a nasty bullies sidekick.
The opening poster does not have a history of this...as she said she has posted twice on the issue.
I think this thread should be closed and some posters should think about how they treat others.
Ihaven't seen this for ages on the dis...iam sorry i came across it today.

The only one doing any bullying is the OP who is doing her best to insult those of us who live here.

She has been reassured on two threads by at least six locals (including one who is a CM) that visitng WDW is safe, yet she continues to press on as if the area is a cesspool of violence.

Does anyone really think that if tourists were being beaten, raped, and shot on WDW property it wouldn't make the news? Internationally and in headlines? It isn't making news because it simply isn't happening, and her refusal to believe this and protrayal of the residents of this area as a bunch of thugs is quite offensive.

GalDisney--where are you getting information that tourists are being targeted for crime on I-Drive? I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but it's generally people doing stupid things like leaving I-Pods and Cell phones clearly visable in their cars. Frankly it's just as likely that a fellow tourist used an opportunity when a car is broken into in a tourist area.
