Hello All
We are planning a family honeymoon to Orlando in 2013. Looking at eldest Sons a'level schdule the best time seems to be mid Jan.

Has anyone been in January?.
Are the water parks open?
is it warm enought to swim and enjoy the pool area?

any advice/views would be really helpful.
many thanks
Ruth

its one of those months where you can freeze one day but be hot the next! The evenings are always cool to cold though. It's an occasion where you have to pack for all weather! So basically yes you will be able to swim, maybe! We went the last week of January/feb one year and on a few days there was ice on the ground first thing:eek: but then it warmed up through out the day. We were caught out and ended up buying warm clothes. We needed layers to stip off as the day went on. I actually thought it was a beautiful time of the year and the parks were empty. :)

Agree with the last PO , January can be cold, we got a few pool days in but the mornings were cold. Early January can be busy as there is usually a marathon on that attracts a lot more guests. Good month for shopping the sales! great weather for walking the parks without getting too hot!

We have visited in Jan, Feb and March. The plus side was low villa and flight prices, low crowd levels, the down side being the weather. One day it was so bitterly cold on the tram ride into the park, we all had fleeces/jeans on but really could have done with a proper coat! And yet on the same hol there were days where we were in the pool. You just have to pack for all seasons and hope for the best ;)

On one trip our pool heat was ineffective as it was so cold outside, that was a bit of a downer but equally I remember walking around the parks in tshirt and jeans, like a lovely UK spring day and thinking the weather was perfect for the parks.

At the moment I wouldn't choose to go back in January as we have other options but if this was my only option then I would definitely go for it!!! Just pack plenty of layers!

Ali :goodvibes

I would second the need for layers. We went for the New Year and did manage to swim in pool most days but there was 1 very cold start when we came into the daylight on TestTrack and the air that met us was cold. Much much better than what we left which was lots of snow. That can be something to take into account if you have a longish journey to an airport. Hours in parks are shorter but you can do more as it's not so hot so we didn't take a break in the middle of the day like we often do in July which is when we usually go.

Spent Boxing Day through January 11th 2012 in Orlando and it was nice in the morning, had shorts and tee shirts on. By the time it came areound 4pm it was freezing, i ended up with the flu, lesson learnt to take fleece out with me! It was a bit like a uk September / October time, quite a nip in the air!! Bonus was after new year there were no queues for any rides, or restaurants . really pleasant getting round the parks. We even did the water park one day - of course the lifeguards were wearing about 10 layers of clothes :rotfl2: and said "you folks must be from the Uk" !!! Most people that day were. its a great time to go for parks - not so good if you are expecting sunbathing time.

We are going January/February next year. We normally go in September/October but was worried about taking DD when it would be so humid so we are hoping even though it will be a lot cooler it will be more comfortable to enjoy in the parks.

we really enjoyed it. It was just a 'different take' on the normal WDW we know in the heat. It was an enjoyable experience. At least you know it can get cold/freezing and then be warm/hot! I think the people that didn't enjoy it when we were on the way home were the ones that went expecting it to be HOT because it was Florida! We knew it could be cool but were caught out by the freezing bit:) Its a beautiful light to take photo's in, some of our best piccies are the ones we took in the January.

I have been a couple of times in January weather can be mixed it's been a few years since we have been in January :). Like everyone else said layers are the way to go. I'm going january 2013 myself we are bringing our twins will be 8 months when we go picked January for the cooler weather and quiet parks :). We got married in January 2003 and the day we got married was in the low 80s so you can also have hot days :)

We are heading over on 1st jan and are prepared for cooler days and also it being cooler in the mornings and at dusk, however if higher 70s is the average i will be delighted...that is a hot day in Oban :)

It will feel as if WDW has moved to DLP for us then. I don't mind cold I just don't like wet and cold. Will be weird not searching for the next A/C point lol!
