Orlando Heat In August

It is very hot and humid there in August for sure. The humidity there can turn my straight hair into a frizzy afro in a matter of minutes! As hot as it has been here in Southern Ontario, I find the humidity is way worse there. I love the heat tho and we go to Disney in August every year (this year we are there begining of Sept).

I still believe the humidity there is much worse then what we are getting here in Ottawa right now. That being said, it's Disney and we all find a way to enjoy our day regardless of how hot it is.

So true about the first slap of August air in Florida LOL

Lots of different thoughts on this! Guess we will have to see what it's like when we get there. Thanks for chiming in everyone, I appreciate it tons :)

True - but everyone agrees it will be HOT! I think a big difference is at home, we can hide out indoors during a heat wave. in WDW, you just wanna be outdoors!! I really wonder what the difference between our Cdn heatwaves and Orlando's humidity? Guess all of us August travellers will find out soon enough!

For our family, we plan to spend half our trip in the waterparks - what better way to spend a hot summer day than floating in a lazy river?

My one worry is when my DD does the Mermaid Makeover pkg at the Pirates League. I really really hope the makeup will hold all day. Oh well - we're getting Photopass+ and just have to take lots and lots and lots of pics. Thank goodness I'm organizing a Photopass share on Facebook - it's $$!!

We plan on going back to the hotel during the hottest park of the day, we would never make it for the parades otherwise, except when we are doing ak as a pp said it is not feasible.

Getting out of the heat when it is the hottest can make a big difference, especially if you get a 2 hour nap in there lol.

True true. Our last trip was in January, and we ended up skipping all our planned breaks because we felt so good. I was planning to do that again for our Aug trip coming up but my TA worked really hard to convince me not to. As a result, I have daily breaks planned due to the heat and am happy I did :)

You will be happy you did when you do not have heatstroke & you go back to the park feeling refreshed, not like you are about to pass out.

I have never been to disney but i am used to heat & humidity. We got married 2 weeks ago in the middle of a heat wave. It was humid, my dress weighed about 20 pounds, it did not feel too heavy for the first few hours.

20 minutes before pictures were supposed to be over i told my photog i was done, i already had the headache starting so i needed to get out of the heat (even though he was awesome & had us in the shade it was still very hot & humid).

I got in an a/c vehicle, grabbed a slurpee & chilled for the 30 minute ride to the church. Best thing i did, i am sure i wouldn't have made it otherwise so that solidified my decision to take the breaks.

We are from the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, and we always go to WDW in late August. Some years, we go to wdw and the weather here is hotter than it is in Orlando.

Just remember, HYDRATE, and bring sunscreen. I can't tell you how many really awful sunburns I have seen on people who are unprepared for the semi-tropical sun. Additionally, wear shoes that are appropriate for lots of walking.

As far as breaks are concerened, we break from conventional wisdom and dont take afternoon breaks, but, to each their own. Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you take advantage of the ample opportunities for air conditioning in the parks (well, except for AK, which hasn't got nearly as much).

Enjoy your trip! Maybe we will see you there!

Someone told me to bring ponchos so our clothes don't get wet, i said we will probably welcome it & they will dry off fast anyways :rotfl2:

The problem with ponchos is that they may keep the rain off of you, but you will create your own sweaty sauna while you wear it.

So true! So it seems you get wet if you wear them and wet if you don't. We opt for as much dry-fit clothing as possible.

What usually gets my family is the huge difference between the air temps of the buildings and the outside. We'll be freezing in the buildings which is nice for the first couple of minutes but when your clothing is already wet (from rain or poncho sweat) then get very cold quickly. I usually bring a long sleeve dry-fit shirt or light sweater to change into. I hate lugging it around but it's become a necessary evil for my family.

Just to let you know, we have been to Orlando in August and it was way, way worse than the weather we have had in Winnipeg the last few weeks (or ever, that I remember). It was hotter, didn't cool down as much overnight, and was on and off showers. Every morning I recall leaving our room and just being covered in a sheen of sweat which never evaporated until I hit the next air conditioned space. The time we were down there was also thunderstorm activity that resulted in ride and pool closures (they don't want the guests hit by lightning, apparently :confused3) so be prepared for that. (We never did get to ride Splash Mountain, but the weather is the weather). We still had a blast :thumbsup2.

Just remember to pace yourself, stay hydrated, and be flexible on touring when there are storms brewing. Definitely start early and take a break mid-day. There are so many locales with air conditioning/fans that you will be fine.

There is nothing like that first slap of August Florida air as you exit the airport the very first time.
It reaches out, down your throat, grabs your lungs and shakes them hard!

It's like getting kicked from the inside -- and I love it! That means I am on vacation!

Love it! Love it! Love it!pixiedust:

I just had a really weird convo with my Aunt who now lives in FL. I'm going to WDW solo next month and asked if she wanted to meet up since we won't be able to in Oct. She told me she won't do Disney in August cause of....not the heat....the SUN. Really you moved from ATL to MCO and you don't want to go out in the sun??? I know she's obsessed with looking as young as possible and claims it's to avoid skin cancer. Then went on to say I know you folks in Canada aren't used to it the sun's alot stronger than up there. Uh true but there's this nifty new thing called Sunscreen!!! LOL Yet she loves the heat and makes fun of us when we visit and complain about how HOT it is. I was baffled.

LOL! My mom carries an umbrella in the sun :)

We're Asian though and white skin is prized much more than tanned skin. I remember using skin whiteners daily when I was in my teens!

Wasn't that a killer yesterday? When I got home from work just after 4 pm, I checked the Weather Network. It was 34 degrees where I live. Orlando was 25 :rotfl: . They had more humidity than we did, but even with that factored in, we were STILL hotter than Orlando.

My son has been wondering what the temps will actually feel like on our August trip (both previous visits have been in January). When he walked out the door yesterday and gasped, I said "THIS IS IT!!". Let's just say he's super happy that we're planning on spending the bulk of our vacation in the water :thumbsup2 .

Yup!

We were more humid and more hot! That is why so many people around here can handle Disney in the summer heat, as our area is exactly the same or more humid than Orlando!

Stay cool, Tiger
