So tell me what kind of heat we are in for...is it humid sticky heat? Or burning hot sun heat?

I hear that August is very hot on Orlando, I want to know what we are in for

Humid, sticky heat with thunderstorms in the afternoon to add more moisture to the humidity! Enjoy :rotfl:

this is what i've heard, but for us in manitoba that is pretty normal. Was 42C the other day with humidity, 37 without, that is almost as bad as florida in august.

Someone told me to bring ponchos so our clothes don't get wet, i said we will probably welcome it & they will dry off fast anyways :rotfl2:

It has been hot here in Alberta as well but usually it is a dry heat. I'm not sure how my co-travellers will do with the humidity. It doesn't bother me anymore than dry heat does.

My only advice is drink lots of water

Bring it on! We have a history of August and LOVE IT!! We always take pm breaks... rest time, pool time!
:beach:

Thanks everyone! Ottawa is pretty humid in the summer (we are actually going through a pretty gross heat wave right now) so humidity...I am used to it.

We are going to have an amazing time either way, so bring on the hot weather! :thumbsup2

I always go end of August. It's not insanely hotter than summers in NJ. It will rain every day, which is annoying, but it does cool things down a bit. Try to be at the parks super early or mid evening, as the afternoons are very hot. The good thing about Disney is that there are plentty of indoor attractions to cool off.

Pretty much like this week 30+ and humid.

I'm not sure if a week into September counts.... we noticed a HUGE difference between the heat we normally encounter in May (when we've always gone) to what we found at the beginning of September. I'm very sensitve to the sun and I found that in September I didn't burn like I normally do. It did get really hot around mid-day but the humidity of the heat was just annoying. I don't think I've EVER sweat so much in my life! There were times where I felt like we were walking around in wet towels...
but like I said... I suffer in the Florida sun in May and I didn't in September. If August is just a hotter version of September, even without rain, prepare to feel dripping wet. :rotfl:

The very hot humid days that we get is nothing compare to what you will live there. we usually get back to the resort for swim and nap for the afternoon as the sun is way too hot and the humidity is a killer. I hate August but it's still better then June or July. Last year by 9am one morning atthe end of August, it was 104F with humidex to give you an idea of how hot it gets. If you ask me, the hot weather we had this week in Ottawa is still nothing compare to it.

Oh and one word of advise, bring pon chos. It rains everyday around 2-3 o'clock for about 30 minutes but it's a down pour. everything gets soaked.

When we went in august it was 105 degrees at 8am!!! We were dying!!! As soon as we walked out of A/C our sunglasses would fog up!!! And why do they heat there pools in the summer??? It was like taking a bath

We are going for our first family trip in August as well, from 8th-16th, as only time wife and I could get same vacation time.

We are planning to follow the trend and hit the parks early and go hard for the major atractioins, back to the resort for swim / nap, and then back to park for dinner and night time hot the attrctions that are not so busy.

Will be interesting to se ehow long we will last each morning - hoping to do RD until 12-1pm but will see....:beach:

We've been a couple of times in August. We always hit the parks before opening and then in the afternoon after we've knocked down the major rides we either retreat into a cool, air-conditioned counter service restaurant for a leisurely lunch, or else leave the park and rest at the hotel or sometimes at a mall if people want to shop. Generally we return to touring the park afterwards. The later we intend to stay at the park the longer we rest in the afternoon.

The one park where this strategy doesn't work is Animal Kingdom. It has a relative lack of air-conditioned places to retreat from the heat, and the hours are such that you can't return to tour in the cool of the evening. You often have to criss-cross the park between attractions and shows (notably Kilimanjaro Safaris and Festival of the Lion King at one end and Everest and Nemo at the other end) so it can be a bit of a hard slog. Most people get burned out by 4-5 pm.

I disagree that it's nothing like we get here. I was walking for exercise (about 5 miles a day) just before our first August trip and I had worse days doing that here during a heat wave than I did on any of our August vacations. It's about the same, but at least I can pop into air-conditioning every 5 minutes if I want, or take a pool break on our vacations. The 5 mile power walks? I just had to keep walking.

We never find it too bad. Correction, we do find it bad, and when we do, we promptly adjust the plan and do something to cool off. Miserable would be forcing yourself to keep plodding through it without taking a break. We never ever do that.

Regardless of the crazy heat and humidity, it's still Disney after all. I actually loved the warm summer nights and the warm water of a Disney resort pool... ah good memories.

We go every August for a couple weeks. We love the heat and humidity coming from Alberta. We do one weeks park and one week beach!

Sorry, but you are incorrect. If you live in the most humid part of Canada like I do, then the weather is exactly like here, and in fact, some days it's hotter here than in Orlando.

What you need to watch out for is UV - since Orlando is closer to the equator than we are, it means the sun is hotter, and you will burn much quicker. This also adds to the heat factor, but in terms of humidity, where I live, it's sometimes more humid than Orlando.

And, it also doesn't pour each day - sometimes it does not rain, sometimes it's a quick 10 mins shower and other days it's a downpour that doesn't usually last very long at all. In the thousands of summer park hours that we have logged, we have only had 1 or 2 downpours that lasted for hours at a time.

We go for 2 weeks each summer to WDW, so we now all about the summer weather in Orlando!

There is nothing like that first slap of August Florida air as you exit the airport the very first time.
It reaches out, down your throat, grabs your lungs and shakes them hard!

It's like getting kicked from the inside -- and I love it! That means I am on vacation!

Lots of different thoughts on this! Guess we will have to see what it's like when we get there. Thanks for chiming in everyone, I appreciate it tons :)
