15 May 2001: Our Second Disney Day and it was Early Entry at EPCOT
Trip information: Me?Sandy (38); My Husband?Tim (50), My nephew?Michael (8). This is my second trip (1991 and 1996), Tim?s second trip (1982 and 1991) and Michael?s first trip.
Our second day began at EPCOT. We wanted to take advantage of the Early Entry day and ride Test Track again. We were up at 6:15 a.m. after another night of little sleep and headed down to the Concierge lounge for breakfast. There we met Michael?s new friend, Matthew and his parents, Carmen and John. They were also heading to EPCOT, so we went together.
At EPCOT, Michael was the expert, showing his new friend around. We tried to get on Test Track, but unfortunately, it was broken down. We went to the Wonders of Life Pavilion (as it was one of the few things open at early entry), did the tours and then went back to Test Track to ride the ride. After Test Track, we split up with our new friends, as they wanted to see Honey I Shrunk the Audience and we wanted to go to the Land.
Spent a wonderful time at the Land after I recovered from losing my wallet. Good thing I noticed right away because it was easy to recover. You know the funny thing was the I was more worried about losing my Disney World passes than anything else. We got a Fast Pass, saw the Circle of Life and Food Rocks, and then went back for the ride.
After the Land, we went for lunch in Mexico and had an okay meal. I guess being from California; we?re spoiled because the Mexican food is so good at home. We were able to listen to a Mariachi band play through lunch and enjoyed just sitting in a cool restaurant.
After lunch, we went back to the Beach Club for a nap and swim. We had planned to go to O?Hanas for dinner and then e-night at the Magic Kingdom. But my husband was still feeling a bit queasy. I am so grateful for the concierge because they were able to get our e-night tickets transferred to the 18th. My husband was feeling better by dinner so we went to O?Hanas.
Our only challenge is that we made the mistake of following the Disney bus guidelines and went to Downtown Disney (making a pit stop at the Lego store). It took over an hour to get the restaurant from Downtown Disney on a crowded and not well air-conditioned bus. In general, we found the Disney transportation sub par and if we weren?t spending most of our time at the parks near our resort, we would have rented a car.
O?Hanas was an absolute pleasure. The food is good and the games and atmosphere is fun. We stayed about 3 hours, just enjoying it all. Michael came in second his first coconut race. For those who haven?t been there, they have a race that allows children young and old to push a coconut around the room with a broomstick. After the first race, Michael realized that you received more gummy worms for coming in later in the pack and finished fourth in his second race.
I was surprised that my picky eater nephew and my still not too well husband would have enjoyed the food as much, but they did. I have never seen a child eat so many chicken wings, pork, and salad. Especially not one whose definition of adventurous food is to have pickles on his hamburger. We also got to participate in a wonderful birthday celebration. One of the guests at the resort was turning 98, she looked wonderful and we all sang Happy Birthday.
After dinner, we hit the Penny machines and got a cab home. I?ll tell you, it is about $14 from the Poly to the Beach Club by cab (including tip). We had an early evening and hoped that my husband was better by tomorrow.
