I'm planning our second trip to Disney World for June 2010. We stayed at Pop and used the Disney transportation on our last trip and loved it. But since we're planning a two-week trip this time, I was looking for something with more space and came across what looks like a good deal on Lake Buena Vista Resort and Spa. Mapquest shows it to be about 8 miles from Disney. Here is my main concern, I've read horror stories on various sites from folks who had nasty commutes to the parks from hotels that sounded nice and close. For those who know Orlando well, how long a commute will this be and will I be covering any seriously congested areas on this commute? I would like to be able to take midday breaks at the hotel, but not if we're going to be driving an hour both ways to go a couple of miles...
I'm just really trying to decide if the space and ability to make a couple meals will be worth the hassle of driving??? What do you think?

What address do they show?

If this is the one on S Apopka Vineland (SR535) then it doesn't look too bad. It's a couple of blocks from SR536 (World center Dr/Epcot center Dr)

You also can go south to Osceola Parkway.

I think it is the high-rise behind the 7/11 on 536 and 535. If that is the case I have heard good reports about it.

I live right by it and it takes me no more than 15 minutes to get from my apt to being parked in the MK parking lot. Granted, I know where I'm going, so I'm not going 40 in a 55, but even still, it's max 20 minutes. Traffic is not bad since it's a pretty direct shot. Once you get through the lights, you're fine.

is the address on their webpage, the building looks like desert sand colors (sorta beige/yellow/orange) and it has a pirate ship themed pool if that helps.
Basically our choices are between this and a value resort. I LOVE the space and having a Washer/Dryer, and a place to make breakfast, but hate losing EMH, transportation and dining plan.
If this is really as convenient and quick as the buses, I can probably deal with the rest, I'll just need to adjust my "touring plan."

That is a nice resort. I have had good comments about it. It is about 6 - 8 miles form the Disney preperty. It just opened up about a year ago. A wal-mart right down the street, but not many reswtaurants close. You would probably need a rental car. I don't think the4 public transportation goes close to the complex. A cab to the magickingdom would probably meter close to $20.00.

It this is at 535 and 536, you are no more than 5 minutes from the Disney arches on 536. We stayed at the Fountains last week, which was another 3 miles or so out, and it never took over 30 minutes from walking out of the park exit to laying on the bed in our room.

There are very few restaurants in the immediate area, there are several clustered around I4 and 535 though.

yeah keep in mind you have the entire crossroads center with all kinds of places to eat.
