Hi There

I was wondering if anybody can give me their feedback on Orlando Carriers. We are from the UK and travelling into Sanford in October and we need to get to a Disney Resort. As it is just me and 1 child, a town car works out quite expensive and I dont drive over there so was looking at some sort of shuttle service.

Or if you can reccomend anybody else I would be most grateful.

Many thanks :goodvibes

Check with your airline. Some of the airlines have a deal with one of the shuttle companies (Coach USA?) and I think Mears may have also have a deal with some of them.

Passenges from the US find renting a car one way for the day is a good way to go.

Other than that you probably found the only available company. Passengers from the US find renting a car for one day, drop off at WDW, winds up being cheaper.

Thank you very much for your reply, I have checked with my airline and as I have booked flights only and not a package deal they can not offer me the transfers. I really dont want to drive, as Im quite a nervous driver over here and being on my own with a child Im afraid I dont feel confident enough to drive over there. It looks like Orlando Carriers could be the way to go. :goodvibes

Many thanks once again :thumbsup2

I know you say you don't want to drive, but give it a bit more consideration. I flew into Sanford a couple weeks ago and it was just me and my DD11. We rented a car from Alamo for our 10 day trip for a little over $150. While I needed a car because we were driving over to the Tampa area to visit relatives at the end of our trip, we ended up using the car even while at WDW. We stayed at Saratoga Springs and used the car for trips to the grocery store, the water parks, other resorts for dinner (AKL and CR, in particular), etc.

I always rely on Disney transportation, but it sure was nice having a car.

When we picked up our rental at Alamo, there were several groups from the UK it seemed. Sanford must be a pretty popular airport for our UK friends.

The drive from Sanford to WDW is not bad -- especially if you can do it in the daylight. (We arrived at 10:00 pm, not the best time to be trying a new route.) The signage is very good and will get you where you need to be quite easily. We took the toll road - 417 - and it went very well.

Good luck in whatever you end up doing. I just wanted to pass along a recent experience.

we always rent a car- but my nephew being under 21 took coach usa and found it good,i think it was $25 pp

I would make another choice besides Orlando Carriers.

You know alot more about Orlando transportation than most of us. The poster doesn't want to pay for a towcar and isn't interested in renting a car. Both may be excellent alternatives to a shared shuttle/bus service but the OP has already excluded those options.

What other shared shuttle services are available from the Sanford airport? Which one do you suggest?

If your answer is none, I might agree but even a bad shuttle service is probably better than Lynx.

There is American Coach and Mears. You could walk up to their window and procure a ride to Disney. They do have the Mears taxi stand which is a direct ride, but Mears advertises $110.00 one way to Disney. Car services charge anywhere from $80.00 to $100 one way or $180. to $220. roundtrip. I believe the two shuttles, Mears or Coach, will accommodate you, but am not sure of the prices. Probably about $50 roundtrip from Sanford. Orlando Carrier equipment, rates, waiting time and drivers questionable.

In the next week I will find out if they will accommodate a walk up at Mears and Coach. Be patient as I will get back with you.

Edd--None of the places even list shared shuttle service pricing on their websites. Orlando Carrier only lists shared shuttle service if you indicate you're from the UK.

I'd be afraid passengers would have long waits. Either a wait for the bus to be filled or a wait while the bus stopped at multiple resorts, not just at WDW.

OP doesn't want a towncar or rental car. Options are limited.

Lewis,

I am going to check into this. If Orlando Carrier, who is one of the three shuttle services in the Sanford airport, can accept only passengers from the UK, the other companies, Mears and Coach, are in the same position, they just have not mentioned it on their sites. No matter what, there is a wait involved in the shuttle business. In Sanford it is outside on a patio. You just don't pay for a shuttle and hop aboard. Airlines from the UK arrive during the afternoon and if there is any waiting involved for any mode of transportation it is in blistering heat, for international passengers, during the summer between 1300 and 1800.

If you get right down to it. Mears who pays for the demand transportation taxi stand is the only one who can legally load passengers who have not pre-paid their ground transportation. I have a feeling that Mears would be rather upset if they saw the comment "if you indicate you are from the UK" on the Orlando Carrier website. They paid a bunch of money to be the demand transportation option at that airport.

Thank you everyone for your replys, im sorry I have been a bit slow getting back to you. I have looked into booking Orlando Carriers because I can confirm booking before I leave, which means although I may have to wait a little while onboard the coach for other passengers or to board, at least they know that I am arriving, and should have a space for me and from what I have read on their website I will be given a return pick up time from my hotel back to the airport.I believe the cost is $40 per person round trip, which makes $80 in total, more in keeping with my budget im afriad than a cab or towncar for $200.

I have to admit I know very little about Mears as a pick up from Sanford and wouldnt want to take a chance of just walking up to the window to purchase a ticket on the hope that there maybe a space for my daughter and I after a 9 hour flight (if that is what you mean Edd) but I appricaite you putting all options down for me.

I really dont want to drive, I have given it a lot of consideration, but I know that my flight from the UK doesnt depart until 2pm in the afternoon which after coming through customs, and a 9 hour flight, it would be around 8pm local time in the evening I believe I would set off and Im sure in October it would start to get if not already dark at that time. I also need to get back to Sanford after my holiday and I know it sounds silly but I know it would always be on my mind the whole holiday that I have that journey back as well.

I have flown into Sanford a few times before but always booked as part of a package deal, so transfers on American Coach have always been waiting for me, which is fine as long as I know they are there for us and have a space for us. I have had to wait onboard for other people and visit numerous drop offs, but this time as I have booked my hotel indepentdently as well as the flights, the transfer option from American Coach through my Travel Agent is not an option.

To be honest as Lewisc has said a shared shuttle service is really what I am after, be it Mears, American Coach or Orlando Carriers it is just that Orlando Carriers seem to be the only ones I can book in advance from here in the UK,but Edd if you if out any different from that for me I would be very grateful.

Many thanks to you all for your help. :goodvibes

You were happy with American Coach service in the past. Why don't you contact them directly and see if you can make a reservation?

Thank you very much for the link, I will do that straight away, I thought they only had a pick up service via the UK Travel Agents on a package holiday as that is what my travel agent told me, but it is always worth a try.

Thank you very much for your help :goodvibes

You can reserve American Coach. I spoke with the Sanford office this PM. Going to the American Coach home page and finding the correct link may be hard. You can e-mail Debbie Salter at the following address and get your confirmations. dsalter@americancoachlines.com or call her direct at 407-322-1989. She will set up confirmed reservations for you. That is the office right at the Sanford airport so if you call make sure it is the right times if you call.

PS - The price is $21.00 one way or $40.00 roundtrip to Disney per person. Orlando Carriers have been known to quote this price but charge a higher rate when they can.

Cheers Edd

Thats great info, thank you very much, I will look into that as well :thumbsup2
